Grace Chan (陳凱琳) always had a passion for the culinary arts. At home, she often cooked for her parents. When she was studying abroad in Canada, she cooked for her brother. “I took cooking classes when I was in high school,” shared Grace. “But we only made very simple things. It wasn’t until much later when I started to make more intricate meals with recipes. I learned how to cook western dishes such as pasta and steak. My mother taught me how to make Chinese dishes, but I could never do them well.” After completing the photography of the TVB drama Wulin Revival <翻生武林> in early October, Grace dedicated her free time to attend cake baking and decorating classes. Cake decorating has always been an interest of hers—the 25-year-old even said she wished to open up her own bakery shop in the future. “I think wedding cakes are beautiful and elegant,” she said. “I really want to open a wedding bakery shop here in Kwun Tong.” At the time of this interview, Grace was baking a lemon sponge cake. From baking to decorating, it took Grace two hours to complete the entire process. Though satisfied, Grace was quite critical of her first cake. “The taste shouldn’t be a problem, but the decorating could use some work. This is my first time making drip cake, and it’s really hard. The cream has to be evenly spread. I don’t know how hard I should squeeze the chocolate.” Grace to Marry Kevin Cheng Soon? Grace and her boyfriend, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), have been dating since the summer of 2015. Kevin, Grace admits, is one of the reasons why she enjoys baking so much. “I want to be able to make something special for my friends and boyfriend on special days,” she said. “There’s a different taste to home-made meals, and I know he feels it.” And Kevin returns the favor. On days when Grace is too busy to step into the kitchen, Kevin would take her reigns and make something special for Grace. The kitchen became the heart of their home—and it would continue to be in the years to come. Despite their 22-year age difference, Kevin and Grace do not experience a wide generation gap. They regard each other as lifelong partners, and rumors say their families are also pressuring them to get married.
