1080p is better for ps3, since ps3 supports full HD. Full HD resolution=1920x1200 or something like that.. which is also called 1080p.

Honestly. 1080p and 1080i really don't have any MAJOR difference. You probably couldn't even pick up much of a difference if you look at both of them, but if you want the better high quality HD. Go with 1080p. It supposedly provides a clearer and smoother image (supposedly better for more moving pictures I.E. Sports, racing). If you're willing to rank out the extra cash for a full 1080p HD TV, then be my guest. But I don't see why a 1080i tv won't be just as good.

EDIT: For PS3 and 360 specifically, I would say the 1080p would be better, but that's only if you're willing to pay a little more for your TV.

Heard 1080p is like the newer 1080i or something like that or the output is better so just go with the 1080p i guess, i think you can wiki to find out more or google lol...

As mentioned above, I think 1080P is true HD, where as 1080I (interlaced) isn't.

yup.. 1080p is true hd.. but now.. the prices are almost the same as 1080i.. so if you live in the US.. go with 1080p.. but.. if your buying by brand.. well then your gonna get ripped off no matter what.. lol

P and I represent the canning method used, P is progressive scan which scans every line of the screen once, the I is for interlaced, where alternate lines are scanned on each frame.

As for which is better, hard to define as I have a 1080p Sony and a 1080i Toshiba - did a test a few weeks ago and its very hard to tell the difference.

Only way is to have the same make of panel side by side with on at P and one at I, then play the same HD disc to compare!!

Most people can't spot the difference nor can I. So I'd personally go for the cheaper one.

doesnt the screen size factor into the utilization of hd?
ive heard that you wouldnt even be able to tell the difference of 720 or 1080 if the tv size is under 37"

From what i heard, 720p is preferred over 1080i and 1080p is more superior.

I've got a ps3 and using it on 1080p HDtv.. it loooks great.. then i plugged out the HDMI cable.. such a big difference.. so get a tv that supports HDMI, for your ps3.. dunno about xbox360.. dont have one -tongue2

The new non elite 360's now have HDMI ports. At least I think they do. I'm 99% sure they do :\. Doesn't matter for me, cause I'm still stuck with an HDMI portless 360 -cry2

if ur screen is <42" stick with 720p... otherwise... it really is pointless as u won't notice the difference...

if ur screen ONLY has 1080i... then it's being upscaled from the 720p to become 1080i

for games, 720p is enuff, most games are made for 720p and are upscaled to 1080p, so it's not really worth it...

1080i is better for things like documentaries, 1080p is better for movies/games etc...

I like the new 1080p. That's what I have in my livingroom now. I've bought the samsung. I have the 1080i in my bedroom. Slight difference in picture. But choose the TV that would best suit your needs like HDMI ports. buy one that has the most output. otherwise you have to buy an adapter.
