Has anyone bought a new car? im thinking of buying one soon and i'd like some pointers on waht to check and waht to look out for. Also if you could share ur experience with buying a used car, good or bad, that would be cool thanks
well, i say make sure that its properly serviced and that it has passed all of the mot tests. also have a test drive always to make sure that it won't break down when u buy it and check engine oil. also when opening the bonnet have a look to make sure that the equipment is all in good condition. soz, i don't know much about buying cars. u prob get more help looking on the internet on car websites or in car magazines.
basically, buy a honda that isnt rusty, has under 160 thousand klicks, and is in good mechanical order. if u do it right it should last for the rest of your natural life. hahaha that is the most generic answer i can provide. do you have a price range?
so are you buying a new car or a used one???? All I have to say as a number 1 rule, is Never be afraid to walk away! Dont feel like or be pressured to buy on the spot, cause its a lot easier to find other cars, but a lot more hassle to buy one then regret it later
Pop the hood and look on the sides of the body under the hood where the fenders meet the side of the body. The curvature here should be smooth. If you notice any distortion along the path from the firewall to the front end of the car, this is a clear indication that the car has been in a front end collision.
DO RESEARCH!!! I can't stress this enuff... don't just listen to what your friends and family say about cars... do research, find out what kind of problems to expect from the car you're looking at... learn about their maintenence schedule... check for recalls... basic things to do: check the tires for uneven wear... check the suspension by pushing down on the front of the car and making sure it comes back up to where it would normally be and not any higher... listen for noise while you're driving... check for rust... squeeze the radiator hoses to see if they have uniformity... have the owner run the car for atleast 15mins and check the color of the exhaust, heavy blue or black smoke is bad, ANY white smoke is bad... many other things to do, these are just off the top of my head... best thing to do is just take it to a mechanic and spend $100 to have them check it out for you... they can do a lot of other tests for you and potentially save u headaches later on if u buy the car...
Usually a franchised car dealer with used car is preferred to big auction-like used car dealers. They are a bit more expensive but you will have less hassle if your car has a problem. I heard many crazy stories with them like counter hacks. Best thing to do is like Aoes said, take it to have it checked by an independant garage and if you are looking to buy from a particular (which I highly don't recommend) check the VIN numbers for either accident or stolen property. And DEAL, DEAL and DEAL until the moment that you sign that contract but always respect the dealer because he still needs to make money Good luck!
do research, check out the car over and over agian wot eva your up 4 and forget what the owner says cos he or her will probably say its a good deal and this and that is good.. but dont believe them until u checked out every fink-cool
lol i was with my friend.. she was willing to spend 20k USD that is.. we looked at a corolla: no hp for sure.. couldn't accelerate when there was 5 ppl in the car then looked at a mazda 3 2.0 engine.. somewhat did actually accelerate.. then at the mazda 5 also.. which was the best one with acceleration since it was a 2.3L engine with 153 horsepower.. and then looked at a honda civic.. which was pretty good in between.. has a 1.8L SOHC engine 140hp.. she ended up buying a honda civic since the price was 18K OTD
wow... 20k... omg if i had 20k right now... i'd have me an M Coupe... for 18k... an S2000... omg 20k and she got a Civic... I think I'm fainting... no wait wait wait... yep... there I go... -innocent2
heh i'd still take a used S2000 or used M Coupe over a New Civic any day... Hondas and Bimmers can run up the mileage anyways... -lol
are you thinking in pounds/euros? 20 K american wont buy you an M coupe or an S2K. used S2K's would be around 27 thousand and M coupes would be around 34 for a good condition one of course 20 thousand pounds sterling is basically like 45 grand, so u could definitely get a good used car with that
if only u could get an used s2k or m3 for 20k i'd easily get them!! an s14 is like 15k =( s15s are like 30s *sigh*
uhm... yes u can get a USED S2K, high mileage, $16K in Yankee land... and yes, u can get a USED M Coupe for about $20K in Yankee land... and I'm looking at an E36 M3 right now for $8K RIGHT NOW... in Yankee land... for the record... S2K's run as old as 7yo... M Coupes are about 9yo... and E36 M3's are like 12yo... hell... here... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/486568167.html 50k isn't even high mileage, that's barely broken in =p
holy cow, had no idea these cars depreciated so quickly in the US... but i suppose it is 6 years old.. hahaha there is an E36 M3 selling in my city with 150 thousand KM's for 45 thousand dollars i guess its all about where u live
i still rather get a new car and not like my friend knows how to drive a MT-.- she's young only almost done with college lolz civic wins lolz i dont know why.. but i like the civic design.. not very interested in the s2000.. since it has been the same for years.. no changes ever made.. besides the CR model at 2008.. sigh.. civic mugen looks pretty cool though
heh my price range is like 6-8k... im only first year >_< i was thinking of maybe a 97' prelude or 96-97' 3 series....t hey run around 6-7k i hear bimmers are high maintenence, but i also hear from some people that they run fine. anyone have any experience? i live in ontario... usually in car ads i see "certified" and "e-tested"... im assuming "e-tested" is emissions tested... and certified means its been checked by a mechanic? is tehre a standard or can u get a car certified by any mechanic? also im not sure about how to go about buying used cars.. do i have to set up a meeting time and test drive it or something?
