When I was a kid, I remember watching a Chinese movie (can't remember if it was in Mandarin or Cantonese) about a young country girl who grew up from the slum of the city to become a huge pop singer. I think the movie was released in the mid-80s and it was a huge box office hit. The theme song is in Mandarin so I suspect it's a Taiwanese film. The song begins with a Ming-Nan-Hua/Hokkien/Fuchien phrase...sounds something like "chew khiam cum boy bo" ....and then the rest of the song is in Mandarin. Does anyone remember this movie???
