Hero Yuen (阮政峰) has rarely been off our television screens since appearing on TVB’s talent program, Kung Fu Supernova <功夫新星>, but it was not until the TVB drama Reality Check <心路GPS> when Hero’s convincing performance as a spoiled Hong Kong teenager did he finally received attention from the audience.

“When the producer called me in for a chat, I did not realize that it was actually a casting audition. When I received the script [of Reality Check] later, I was in total shock. Thankfully, I get to play myself,” Hero laughed. “Like my role, I am also quite vain. Whenever I pass by my reflection on the buildings in the streets, I will look at it. I am also someone who loses interests in things very easily.”

Much like his character Sky in Reality Check, Hero also dreamed of being a celebrity. “I loved watching television when I was younger. Whenever I watch dramas with firemen, I would say I want to be a fireman when I grow up. Whenever I see lawyers, I would want to be a lawyer. My mom then told me that since I wanted to be everything, I should just be a celebrity. I knew she was joking at the time, but that thought never left me.”

After graduating from high school, Hero took up a job as a martial arts coach for young children. When he encountered the casting call for Kung Fu Supernova, Hero immediately auditioned for the show. Hero was determined to join the entertainment industry in full force. “I successfully got cast in the program, but I was afraid that I would lose out in the end, so I applied to TVB’s artist training class as a backup. I made sure that I would get into the industry no matter what.”

His family was initially worried about Hero’s career choice, but after watching his thoughtful performances in television dramas, his mother became very supportive. “Although it was a very minor role, my mom could see that I put in a lot of thought into the performance. She is now starting to understand that her son is not playing around anymore.”

Hero thanked his costars and seniors, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Evergreen Mak (麥長青), for supporting and teaching him throughout the shooting of Reality Check. “I promise to continue to humbly accept criticism and learn wholeheartedly.”

    I agree with Jeff.
His acting wasn't bad as a spoiled brat, but from this article alone I already don't have a very good impression of him. I guess he just hasn't matured yet.
