BEIJING(18 June 2010): Hong Kong actress Rosamund Kwan announced on Thursday that she would retire from showbiz to do charity work, reported Chinese media. "I have appeared in over a hundred films and tried playing virtually every type of character so I think I have made the grade as an actress," said Kwan at an event in Beijing. "I had a number of film offers but I rejected them and will no longer take on any more film roles." The actress, who is best known for her role as 13th Aunt in the "Once Upon a Time in China" films, said she will devote her time to charity after her retirement. Kwan is apparently no stranger to charity work. Her manager claimed that Kwan had donated over 2 million yuan to victims of the Szechuan earthquake in 2008 and even built a number of schools there over the years. However, the 47-year-old actress wants to do more. "Although I have previously been involved in a lot of charity work, I was usually just a participant. But this time, I hope to be an initiator," Kwan told reporters. Interestingly, Kwan had claimed that she would retire on multiple occasions since 2006 but continued to appear in advertisements and at high-profile functions. She also once said that her greatest wish is to shoot a good film that would really represent her as an actress, and that none of her works so far fit the bill. If she retired now, her dream would be left unfulfilled. This led industry observers to speculate that Kwan would most likely return and also question whether she had ever really left the business in the first place. - CNA/ha
She was one of the hottest ladies back in the days and she is looking great but seriously, she hasn't really done a movie that was great in an artistic/award winning type.
