http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_30602.aspx Something like this shouldn't have happened, but I feel bad for this happening in a sport that everybody loves.
What a self serving asinine opinion. If we wanted boxing we would buy tickets for that instead. Further, even if they don't outright ban it, they should certainly heavily penalize it. So if they want to fight, they still can, but say, with a three game suspension per punch thrown. So, if a player throws 10 punches, he's out for a third of the season (going by average pro hockey game season). Further, fights in which another player is maimed or killed (or dies as a result of the sustained injuries, as was this example), should result in permanent ban from hockey for the other players who were involved. Hockey is a sport, and sport is about sportsmanship. Remove the sportsmanship and it's called combat; never mind the idiot sports commentators like Norm Rumack trying to pretend they're one and the same.
