During a recent press drive of the Euro-market Civic Type R, Winding Road's European editor Matt Davis appears to have gotten unofficial confirmation that Honda will be offering a Type R variant of the U.S. model Civic in 2010. Speaking with an unnamed assistant chief engineer, Davis learned that the car we'll get is likely based on the Japanese Domestic Market Civic Type R, which is a four-door sedan rather than the Euro market's three-door hatchback. Since Honda already sells the four-door Civic in the States and not the Euro hatchback, this only makes sense. Davis' source also revealed the car would receive a horsepower boost and limited-slip differential. We imagine any car wearing the Type R badge would also lose some weight, as well. While we do appreciate Honda offering the Civic Si here in the U.S., especially the four-door version, it's high-revving 2.0L enginer producing 197 hp is easily outmatched by many of its competitors that have crested the 200 hp mark and then some. The closest thing Honda has right now to what we'll eventually get in the U.S. is this prototype four-door Type R Civic (shown above) based on the JDM model. It was used as the official pace car for the 2006 F1 Japan Grand Prix and is the prototype for the four-door Civic Type R that will be on sale in Japan this year. [Source: Winding Road] yeaaah!! civic type R = uber sexy hotness
2010? damn.. and this might be the FIRST civic that appeals to my eyes.. if canada bans this like they did to the evo, then canada is gay.
the chassis is actually just an Acura CSX which u can buy in canada... the only thing is the CSX is a pussymobile with a lawnmower engine and leather seats. You could probably spend alot of money converting it to a J-spec Civic Type R though.
I have driven it!! The Honda maneger comes to my take away and I booked a test drive months ago. They had the UK test/press car in and he called me in, dropped the wok and went straight to the dealer!! The cars a screamer, redlined it through the gears. . . . Much better than the outgoing CTR BUT I have driven this aswel and it saddens me to say it I prefer it to the CTR!! http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/FirstDrives/Renault-Mégane-Renaultsport-230-F1-Team-R26/223171/#
hmm... are u sure u drove the CTR that i posted a picture of? cuz the one i showed is the Japanese Domestic Market model.... if your in the UK the Type R you get looks like this
^ thats.... terrible... lol sorry it just looks like a ball... anyways, you guys know what i just found out? why the lancer evo IX and below are banned in canada? BECAUSE IT FAILED THE 8KM/H CRASH TEST!!! its not supposed to get damaged at 8kmph but apparently, it did. so its banned... not only that, the new lancer looks like an evo meets batmobile... it looks nasty.. and its the only lancer evo to come to canada... sucks....
lol i dunno man, i love the UK civic type R... the egg design is sexy IMHO. lol and yeah the reason we dont have evo's in canada is because their front mount intercoolers are easily damaged in low speed crash tests. I think this is atleast one of the reasons Subaru WRX STi's have their intercoolers mounted ontop of the engine and require the huge scoop.
the jdm ctr looks more appealing imho cause it could be a sleeper.... why is it that the u.s. gets the less cool and weaker hondas?
