In the past we would have songs that actually makes sense and well....sounds good. Today's music's are just CRAP. Music's producers are just trying to cash in the already falling Music Industry by recruiting untalented artists and trying to cater to today's teenagers. It's so easy to become a singer in Hong Kong now a days it's a joke. All you need is the look and the body and you're in. Their songs makes absolutely no sense and if they do, its just well....isn't good. Comparing today's musics standards to the past is a joke. In the past we have Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai, Leslie Cheung, and etc...And who do we have today? Alex Fong? Theresa Fu? New emerging artists are such a joke that I don't even bother knowing their names. Every now and then when I see a new MV featuring one of the new artists I just want to kick myself in the balls.

Tell me what you guys think of today's Hong Kong music industry.

it's happening in many places all over the world, but in HK, talent is nowhere nearly as good as in the past. I think that a lot of them are not really that great looking too. From what I heard, some of them get into singing or acting by knowing producers, family connection with certain influences over who gets what opportunities. All about connections, I know what you mean by whating to kick your balls when you hear some of them sing or act on TV. Sometimes listening to these artists, I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it.

  7. not only does the music industry suck the movies also suck not since the 90's has there been any real talent with the exception of a few people. The china/taiwan market has gotten better singers/movies and bigger production in their movies/music/mvs these days hk is just a talentless industry (these days). The only movies that are worth seeing are gangster movies everything else is just garbage , who seriously likes to watch hk mvs? the production is so low and cheesy and the lyrics never change , everything sounds like that alex fong/stephy duet.

yeah I've pretty much stopped watching hk movies .. especially the ones with the newcomers
but I do think that there are some newcomers worth listening to/watching

it is HORRIBLE. well i must said that some other independents are good, like Hins Cheung

now, the songs are written for the industry only, not for the right purpose. They're all those ehhh...LOVE SONGS, slow songs, or dance songs....MORE ROCK PLEASE!! bring back the BEYOND age!!

im really sick of those slow songs and stuff..

you know who are the worst now?

FREEZE, that plastic surgeries girl group, they popular just b/c of those boobs. END OF STORY.

now ages, everybody can become a singer as long as they are good looking, sexy, and got cash. The music industry is like, polluted already.

yeah i agree, the music industry today is sure getting terrible and made no sense. i keep on seeing the same style of music going on in tv. Basically about love, where someone sings and viewing a love story scene, a guy and girl. Nothing new, though i have no right to critisise their singing because i couldn't do better or i don't sing at all. But u can tell. Sometimes i see the industry taking a music published before and recreated it. No innovation.

i do agree that they do recruit some new singers who look untalented and it makes it so easy for everyone to be a singer and they are like replacing the old singers with the new artists. I guess the music industry is trying to earn a lot of money or maybe not.

ahhh the past songs when they actually made sense...and were good....and how the artist actually had talent..im apart of the younger generation but i perfer the older generation songs. And yes the talent in the music industry is going down, not just in HK but else where also, i don't even listen to any new artist anymore >.<

hong kong music industry isnt going downhill its your preference of music. your getting too old to keep up with current trends in songs. You "think" its getting worse but when i listern to the old music it sounds boring and something crap to me.

it's not just about the beat of the music, it's about the quality too
nowadays music is all hip hop, which is what young people like
you're just saying that you like modern music better because you're probably used to listening to that kind of music and can't appreciate old school music

  16. i dont want to get into stats n stuff but when we say they are going down hill we really mean it. The sales are something like 1/4 of what they used to be and producers not pushing to rebound it by recruiting talentless noobs and crappy production values. Thats why stars who write/produce their own music are really big on their own like justin/hins/nicholas

Definately; majority of the singers now in HK can only sing through recording; when they have to sing live, it's absolutely deafening.

Agree; and being a singer isn't just about hitting every single note right, and having skill; its about having something special and unique. I mean look at Britney Spears; correct, she doesn't have a lot of talent in singing, but how come back in the old days, she was so popular, and won over Christina Aguilera, who's skill and voice bet Britney by miles? Because Britney had the 'star image' in her naturally. I'm not saying Christina doesn't have it; I'm just saying that Britney had a strong star image and a unique style that captured everyones attention, and they stood out.

Look at some HK singers these days; they are all about the same in my opinion. Same foundation plastic faces, same boring, toneless voices.
