Short summary http://www.sfchronicle.com/news/wor...-Kong-new-year-celebration-marred-6817391.php Video https://gma.yahoo.com/video/hong-kong-fish-ball-revolution-130855156.html This is a disgrace. It is Chinese New Year, a holiday where people are suppose to be happy and work together, not fight each other. I get where the gov't is trying to come from. Health and sanitation is an issue worldwide. I do not know what the Hong Kong regulations are but the police shouldn't have forced down like that. At the same time, they were just doing their job, but maybe a little excessive. On the other hand, the citizens SHOULD NOT have attacked the police like that. I know the police and public relationship has been stale since the Umbrella Revolution but this is a disgrace. You are attacking a figure of authority. Think about what other consequences that follow. One attacks a cop, many more will join in. Your point only goes so far until violence erupts where your points don't carry as much weight anymore. It's the year of the monkey, and these guys are acting like a bunch of monkeys. I honestly feel the cop in that situation had every rights to shoot to protect himself. Just a mess in Hong Kong at the moment.
Really? Riot just for trying to shut down illegal vendors? I think there's more to the story - how or when did all the people started gathering around to protect the vendors? They seem prepared with masks. I wonder what sparked the riot.
yea the articles I am reading now, are all saying the police are "oppressing" the vendors. But I also agree with you, the rioters seemed prepared to start trouble. I just felt disgusted that they chased down a cop like that...it's truly disgusting in my books
also like to add http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-35529587...this picture stood out does this kid look like he is fighting back police brutality? I do not think so, he looks prepared to cause trouble. I agree, this probably has nothing to do with the street vendors. I feel some people are using this as an excuse to stir trouble. It's sickening to see this. The kid from the Umbrella Movement, Joshua, I believe his name is...my mom showed me a clip where I think (do not quote me, if you have a video, please provide), he said "I support the people attacking the police". If you are support violence or stirring violence...all your credibility goes out the window. Had this riot been in the United States, you better bet, the police would fight back with actual force, someone will actually get shot.
sorry, i probably worded that in the worst possible way. I was just trying to make an observation how this kid went in with his face covered, with a slingshot, ready for violence. In my honest opinion it looks like the kid has full intent to enter this situation with violence compare to say a kid just showing up to a protest where violence just happened to erupt.
Yeah I'm all for against the corrupt government and the people in the corruption even it be cops, but not the violence behind at all....
