As the title suggests, I want to know how you can become a hongkie.

Maybe that's a bit misleading though. I just really wanna know what hongkie qualities are. What do people have to take into account if they want to try and pretend to be a hongkie??

    So far, I got:

    Language:
apart from obviously having a decent grasp of cantonese, you should be able to understand/use the slang of today's teens. Speak with lazy sounds?

    Media/Pop Culture:
get up to date with the latest HK gossip, singers, actors/actresses etc. Learn the lyrics to the popular K songs too. Watch the hottest films and dramas?

    Geography:
know your way around? I know this is really hard to 'pretend', but how can one improve your hongkie authenticity easily? I came up with learning the MTR routes, and understanding the different areas of HK... You also should know what areas are famous for what.

    Food:
you have to be obsessed with sushi. j/k
know roughly what everything is? I couldnt come up with too much for this

    Fashion:
probs most important.. you have to look the part. things to take note of are: hair, glasses?, and obv clothes. Oh, and don't dress in Lui Yan Gai clothes.

SO guys, how can one learn to be Hongkie? What are the must-knows of Hongkiedom? Let's compile a useful guide for all aspiring Hongkies!

the best place to be one is to actually BE in hong kong and then you can absorb whut/how
    people in hong kong act/do

food...just lub to eat snacks, aji ichiban ling sik....dim sums?...and eat food stalls like yuu daan

    fashion....know your brands/labels...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally Hongkie, but I already lean towards that end, and less towards the banana end. I made this thread coz ppl have been asking me, and I don't rly know what to say to them. i must say, you do stick out a lot if ur in hk and not hongkie

unless your in hong kong, looking/acting like a 'hongkie' is going to be just plain silly.

lol, there are so many "Hongkies" at my brother's school. You could spot them out from a mile away, their hairstyle, glasses (if they wear them) and the way they wear their uniform (shirt all the way out, tie done up 3/4 of the way) reminds me so much of Hong Kong. Plus they all carry CR bags.

away....coz its the clothes we wear are ubbbber diff. to whut they wear etc...

one time i was paying for something the shop assistant was able to tell i wasnt from
hk just from looking at my purse....coz she says you cant buy that style from here -__-"

but the same can be said about them.....hk people who come over to hk....i can spot
them from a far too....haha...so guess it works both ways..

so where did the term Hongkie come from?

I've always know them to be called Hongers

ANd yea, when someone is forcing themself to be a "hongkie" it will be so weird for the first few years, cause you just seem like a poser.

anyways i would add, walk a ton, become super scrawny, wear biggish clothes, try to become pastish, try to copy japanese fashion badly, know your cell phones, carry a ton of cute charms on your phone (regardless if you are a guy or girl).

sorry if i offend someone with my weird comments, but think about it, it's kinda true
