    that really depends on
    1) cpu (as well as overclocked or not)
    2) cpu cooler/heatsink
    3) case

    my xp2100+
    idles about 40-45
    load is about 75-90
(in a crappy case... and i have the panels all open... stock cooling, not o/c)

    xp2500+
    idles about 35
    load about 60
    (basic case...stock cooling, not o/c)

    athlon 3200+
    idles about 18
    load about 45
    (antec case stock cooling o/c'd
before i got the antec case, it was idling about 30, load about 55-60)

My Shuttle XPC (P4 - 3.2Ghz) is currently reading 42 degrees C on system/CPU/board , and that is under idle load. It is winter weather where I am though. Probably will be quite different in summer :)

How do you measure the temperature of the computer?
I definitely should check its temperature because the computer is on pretty much all the time, downloading stuff.

u can check it via the bios (usually the thermal sensor on the motherboard is not that accurate)

or stick a thermal sensor probe under the heatsink and close to the die of the cpu

    just dl some monitoring program
    many are freeware
some software come with the motherboard (eg asus mobo, asus pc probe)

i use speedfan, its nice and decent and its free =)

in the end, i guess if your mobo doesn't have sensors, u can't do much ><

  14. no steam coming out so im all good...

u can use something like speedfan to monitor temperatures (assuming there are sensors on your mobo etc). speedfan is freeware

it seems the amd xp's just naturally run hotter... but i don't think it matters too much
atleast if it does die, u'll have a reason to get a new computer =)
