When Myolie Wu Hang Yee participated in the Miss Hong Kong 1999 beauty pageant, her dancer that night was Ron Ng Cheuk Hei. Over the years since their initial meeting, Myolie has ascended to leading lady status and Ron's career has been rocketing skywards.

Myolie: "When I entered Miss Hong Kong, I was contestant number 14. I was only 19 years old then and have not endured many life experiences yet. When it was time for the contestants to meet the press, I only wore a light blue T-shirt and jeans. When I saw that the other contestants wore heavy make-up [and dressed elegantly], I realized my mistake.

"After the pageant was over, contestant #9 Wong Yi Tong joked, 'I thought the youngest age to participate was 17? How come you students joined the pageant to fight with us?' I have many interesting memories of the pageant.

"Many people knew that Ron Ng was a dancer before becoming an artist. But not many knew that he was my dance partner on the night of the pageant. I felt extremely lucky because Ron was the most handsome among all dancers. At the time, Ron also picked Sonija Kwok and I to be among the winners."



"In the past, he had extremely long hair and was different than the playful and outgoing Ron today. We always tease him that behind the camera, he is so talkative and lively, yet once the cameras roll, he would mumble inaudibly!"

"Among S4, Ron has the best sense of humor. Thus the Ron that audiences see onscreen and the cool and sour-faced image that the media establish are not the real him!"

Ron admitted that he never considered becoming an artist. At the time, TVB was recruiting dancers and artists, but Ron chose to apply as a dancer.

Life as a dancer was not easy; you need to work full days from Monday through Friday and half a day on Saturday. During important shows, holidays, and anniversaries, there were no days off.

The salary was enough to pay for food and transportation, without additional money left to purchase clothing. The only good aspect was that a dancer's salary paid one thousand dollars (HKD) more than an actor-in-training.

Ron's first role was an extra part in TVB's movie 《鐵翼驚情》. For his role, he sat behind Kenny Wong Tak Bun and Wong Pui Ha. There were no scripted lines, but he had to appear in deep discussion with the person he sat next to. At least Ron learned what TV production was about! Ron's second job was playing a firefighter in "Burning Flame 2" 《烈火雄心2》, where his lines were "Yes ah!" and "Yes lor!"

"In my third role, I finally had lines to speak. In 'Golden Faith,' I played a CID and there was an interrogation scene with Gallen Lo Ka Leung." Ron said he fretted over the scene for several days, as he did not have enough filming experience previously. The scene was shot at the end of the day, thus adding extra stress as everyone wanted to go home early.

With additional stress, this resulted in more NG's. Ron could only step outside the studio to drink a cup of water to cool off. At that moment, Gallen walked over and advised Ron that he must understand the dialogue first, digest it, and speak it using his own manner. After Gallen's advice, Ron only had 2-3 more outtakes before completing the scene successfully.

Aside from Gallen, Ron also learned acting tips from Francis Ng Chun Yu while filming "Triumph in the Skies" and Damien Lau Chung Yan in "Find the Light."

From prior interviews, Ron had mentioned that it was Louis Koo Tin Lok who advised him to become an artist. Ron was anxious whenever this topic was brought up, as he did not want Louis to feel that he was using this issue for self-promotion. Since Louis kept a low-profile, Ron was concerned that Louis would be upset with continuous mention of this incident.

Despite the media's misconception, Ron and Louis were not the type of close friends who often met for dinner. Ron acknowledged that Louis treated him very well and inquired about his well-being. Perhaps Ron and Louis did not become close friends since both men were not very talkative.

Ron Ng's Friendship with Raymond Lam

One of Ron's closest friends is Raymond Lam Fung. Despite being polar opposites, with Raymond as a wealthy heir lacking a sense of humor and Ron as a playful guy, the pair became close friends.

Ron and Raymond met many years ago, when Raymond's acting training classes were held at the dance studio. While practicing his dance routine one day, Ron and his friends watched Raymond act in a kiss scene in his acting class.

When Ron finally became an artist, Raymond had already achieved popularity with "A Step into the Past" 《尋秦記》. Raymond took the initiative to ask Ron out for dinner and the two became friends quickly.

During the 4 month filming of "Twin of Brothers" 《大唐雙龍傳》in China, Ron and Raymond often discussed how to act in their upcoming scenes together, solidifying their friendship.


Currently, Ron and Raymond often talk to each other on the phone every other day. Ron admitted that to find such a compatible and sincere friend in the industry was an extremely difficult and rare opportunity. [Myolie agreed with Ron on this point!]
Drawing to the end of the interview, none of Ron's rumors were mentioned. Not sure if everyone was a bit disappointed, but there were other interesting aspects of Ron worth knowing!
