So for some of us asians.. who are not american borned In order to be 'socially' accepted into the white culture and more americanize i guess.. and have a more normal conversation just like others.... Let's compile of list of stuffs they need to know..., you know like music, football , ..etc...
why is this thing in the rant section? its not like u do this, then u will be socially accepted. you have to be involve and it depends on ur community, suburbs & city are totally different. also, if u dont enjoy doing the things they're doing, u arent gonna get accepted neither tbh. i cant pretend i love gossip girl n' chat w/ those fashion bitches about what happened every episode, nor i will pretend $50 for a piece of light fabric grey tee in Henri Bendel is cheap, not gonna happen
find Bin Lardin and you will be socially accepted by then man just be true to yourself and be who you are. U don't NEED to be americanised to become socially accepted! yes maybe people can easily dismiss u coz they can easily tell u r foreign by the sounds of your accent, however, true friends will not leave ya. + if u wanna make new friends just be social and interact with people more, then u will pick up the lifestyle on what people will do and you will automatically start watching TV, listen to the kind of music you will like etc...
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. You don't know him/her at all. Maybe he/she is an international spy trying to fit in! Face it, you guys aren't gonna have a lot of ABCs or white/black people that wanna hang out with you if you're straight up FOB/heung-ha! Especially in a rough economy like this, it's definitely not going to land you any jobs. You do need to be socially accepted in some aspects to work your way up. Stop being stupid, people. Also, Im not sure why this is in the rant section. Although I think OP could have elaborated more on such a topic, my advice is: learn English, social etiquette, and be very resilient. Because American people are very stupid.
"Cockroaches in America are just as stupid as Americans. They move so slowly even when I'm about to step on them." ---- my dad.
There are stupid people in every country, I don't see why you guys are making it seem like Americans are more stupid than people in every other country. Pretty arrogant attitude. Shame. My take on the subject: why is everybody giving the advice of "don't change yourself to try to fit in" etc.? What's wrong with assimilating to the country that you have migrated to? If you want to fit in and make life easier, try to learn the cultures/norms of the particular country (not just talking about the American culture), that's how it should be. If I migrated to a different country and I intend on living there for the rest of my life (or even for the next 5-10 years), I'd want to learn the language, culture, norms, expectations, etc. of that country and possibly assimilate to it. It's never fun being the "outcast" of society.
Because we're one of the most progressed countries yet we have so many dumbasses, that's why. There's still so many bigots in this country.
Music? Football? No offense, but sheesh, something tells me that even if you're not in the US and back in Asia, you'll probably be just as much a social outcast as you are here. There is nothing "white" about Music or football. It is enjoyed by most people anywhere. Insofar as Compiling a list of stuff you need to know in order to fit into society? Sure, don't pick your nose or your teeth, or fart in public, don't exhale the contents of your sinuses onto a crowded sidewalk, don't catch and roast the neighborhood's stray dogs over a barbecue spit; ...you know, the good ole regular, disgusting Asian shit... :rolleyes2:
rofl. don't conform. i think all asians goes through this in their life...usually in the earlier years. Why can't I be like them? during high school or part of college they begin to conform to dress more american or commit to the american life style. I believe that once you get older...you'll regret it. You'll come back to your roots and say, wtf why didn't i pay attention in chinese school? You'll want to get to know your culture more and do things pertaining to it. -speaking from experience and knowledge of other's experience. oh and if you don't come back to your roots...you're lost. you shouldn't even be on this forum. i feel bad for you.
