how to convert vids/movies to .gif

i see a lot of guys with banners/avatars that are taken off movies

how do u do it?
i looked for programs, but i they arnt free.., or have watermarks..

can anyone recommend me a program that does not have watermarks, and a crack if it not freee/trial.

you have to use photoshop/vitual dub to do it
