HVD it is being make by Optware and Maxell...yes you can order them now in year-2008, they do exist, 200GB versions that is, holographic drives are projected to initially cost around US$15,000, and a single disc around US$120–180. HVD is also the reason why TOSHIBA drop HD-DVD so fast. what is HVD? you asked, well: The Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is an optical disc technology that would hold up to 3.9 terabytes (TB) of information. It employs a technique known as collinear holography, whereby two lasers, one red and one green, are collimated in a single beam. 3.9 terabytes (TB) is like 160 Blueray discs!!! WOW!
Whao!! Crap 4 TB nearly.. But,.. no one will have it until a few more years.. once everyone has gotten over the Blu-Ray craze
^ if microsoft did that xbox prices would be greatly over inflated no one would buy it.... 15g's for the player alone? that is some shit, i don't even know how much the writer would cost and who the hell as of now needs 3.9TB's of memory on a single disc? The only place that may benefit from this is our military....
yep indeed agree with akki. also this won't come out for another 10 years i don't think cos blu-ray is developing and this is too expensive to manufacture and buy at the current moment and after 10 years then they might have perfected the hardware and stuff and it will prob end up of a price at which consumers will pay.
i can imagine people having HVD-R and putting their data in....at 50%, it fails...great you have to toss almost 200 bucks into the trash lmao. but yea 15000 for a player uh yea a few people would buy it and also does any movie company support it yet lol, i doubt it would be mass produced now, like everybody says, this is a thing of the future, when blue ray is as established as dvd. also blue ray is already reaching 100gb ( this is using the current optical drive technology) 200 gb is not as significant for an upgrade now. so technically it's not a "blue-ray killer" as it's not part of the same generation. and toshiba dropped hd-dvd just cause they lost support from warner and they failed.
