anyone know why my internet browsers take up THAT much memory? it just slows down my whole computer....

usually the more tabs i open and close, the more memory it uses... the stupid thing is it doesnt go away until i close every last bit of the browser, but if im downloading something then i have to keep it open...

is anyone else having this problem? or is it just my computer?

Maybe try using FF and see if that offers a better experience.. How much RAM do you have?

It really depends what you're loading and the fact that you are using IE adds to the problem. I'm using FF3 here and when I click on one of the threads in teh movie section it goes up to 178000 for me.

ye it depends on the ram on ur system firstly and then it is true that IE uses a ridcule amount of ram compared to the other browsers so it would be bad if u opened and closed a lot of tabs. FF3 is better on ram usage than before so that is quite gd. usually that would only go upto about 180000 though that depends on ur ram on the comp as it uses more if u have more and the amount of browsers though usually at 180000 there are quite a lot of tabs open. alternatively u could use opera which i think is very gd. it uses before slightly less ram than firefox not sure now but that is gd in the fact that once u close the tabs u can minimise ur browser and open it up again to reduce the ram usage even more compared to firefox.

i have 2 gigs ram which should be enough, but still slows my computer down

all browsers are like that for me... as you can see i use ie, ff, opera, safari and kmeleon...

well i do open and close quite a large amount of tabs, its nice to know that other ppl get like 180 megs of ram usage too.. i guess im not the only one =P

use firefox 3.0, its memory footprint is tiny and it doesnt expand exponentially as you open more tabs

i was considering that but i heard that a lot of add-ons and themes are not compatible with ff3.. i have my firefox set up the way i like and i dun really have time to mess around with all that =P

  10. lol really? a browser is suppose to just be a browser.... the FF3 setup isn't that bad the default theme is easy on the eyes

well im pretty sure updates for ur add ons will be released pretty soon and besides firefox 3 takes me back to the gd old firefox 1.5 days as the ram usage is so much less than what it was on firefox 2.

you have too many processes to begin with... why do you need 86???

but yea just give up on ie... the memory usage goes up exponentially as you leave it on for longer... ff3 ftw^^
