In continuation to my previous thread about my travel to NY, I would like to know if there are any places cheaper than USPS where I can ship packages of about 20kg (44lbs) or more ... yes, we intend to do some major shopping. At USPS that would be about $160 using air mail (they don't ship by sea).

So are there any alternatives if I want to ship cheaper to Holland ? Doesn't matter if it's by air or sea. The only advantage of shipping by air is that I can stick in Chinese sausages and other illegal food items and hope the customs dog does not smell it :)

Fedex are hella expensive though, it's not cheaper than USPS unless you do slow mail or something.

is it cheaper if you just pay the fee for extra luggage?

I'm not sure what he's flying, but extra luggage is about $225 at Pearson.

Coincidentally I did check this out yesterday and you are right! Our trip uses the piece concept or whatever they call it. You get 1 piece of luggage for free. It costs about $73 for an extra piece (23kg / 50lbs) + 20% discount if you pay for it upfront. So we will buy a cheap luggage in NY for our trip back.

I still find a bit strange though that the USPS does not ship by sea. Oh well, problem solved. Now hoping that the weather is going to be fine in NY :)
