im currently with 02 broadband been with them for a year now my contract is nearly up only 2 weeks left, and i must say service hasnt been very good, i know using wireless for gaming is bad but with my old ISP (BT) i never had problems, even in uni all my mates game wirelessly it was fine with a differet provider (beunlimited) <--apparently thats 02 as well.

02 broadband seems to be getting worse as i reach my 1 year contract paying £7.50 there was a few times the internet was dead for 2 days while i was away which my bro told me according to my phone line i should be getting 11mb max( judging distance from local exchange etc,,), my package gives me 8mb but since i join ive only had 6mb never had 8mb ever! i had my noise level raise soo much its now down to 4mb which sucks! still get the d.c and lag in games now n now again i also cant play on the same server in counterstriker with my bro in the same house we get epic huge lag unplayable, 02 CusomterService wont do shit all cos according to they system everything is fine, i tried all solution with channel changed etc..just now i bought a Belkin router and that is having same problem too but just update the firmware and seeing how it goes for now, i suspect its a phone line issue contacted BT they said everthing is fine too, so what is the problem?

would changing ISP solve the problem, planning on joining SKY broadband truely unlimited downloaded woohoo

    idea folks?

  2. wireless has nothing to do with your internet being slow. wireless is related to a router, not your ISP. your ISP don't give a shit about your router problems

if Bittorent is slow, it could be that you haven't port forwarded your router's ports, or your ISP throttles BT or etc.

changing ISPs without understanding the root of your problem is like making a decision based on uneducated assumptions. just figure out what the root of the problem is, and if you find that it has to do with your ISP, then change it. otherwise, it could be an issue with your modem, or router, which has nothing to do with the ISP, otherwise you'd be changing ISPs for no reason

  3. why are you going from crap ISP to crap ISP? if you want proper broadband then get the Virgin media 10 Mb package, i get the full speed advertised but the green box is just over the road but either way VM is the best when it comes to the speed your paying for.

Wireless is not to good for games, but it gets worse the further away you are from the router, thickness of walls and interference. i have my console and Pc wired to the router and all the other PC's and game boys, psps etc are obviously wireless and run fine.

    Go VM, forget sky.

your thinking of this way to basic or have misunderstood me, the main concern is that with my previous ISP BT broadband with BT wireless router gaming speed and d.c was not a problem since i been with 02 broadband using 02 wireless router, everything has changed disconnnection, game lags, and rarely happen but has happen twice internet has died, sometimes even with rapid speed drop, i never use bittorent thats old school, i use newsgroup
ive tried all solution that ive been told and is sick of them

the main problem is i cant even find the main root problem, is it router?ISP, BT or my actual phone line around my house im sorry but i must admin dan you post some serious bullshit here, if you dont understand me that please ask for more detail

dont take me wrong now this is just my opinion thanks for the reply but i personally think you talk trash lol

master g i just dont know what to say....you just mention virgin media

    i give up lol

  5. Lol interesting

Why would i waste my time "talking trash" or "talk bullshit"? If you dont like what i say, then just ignore me lol

Dan is right in that your wireless speeds have nothing to do with your ISP. I had a Belkin router prior and it was terrible, constant connection drops and slow speeds. This may be the real root of your problem. You should also make sure you have the latest modem from your provider.

With anything above 5 Mbps for a connection on DL speed, you should have no lag on games.

Try connecting directly to your modem instead of going through your router and see if that solves your problem. After my experience with Belkin, i will never buy another one of their products. Its Dlink, Linksys or Netgear all the way from now on.

If you really want to avoid wireless issues, buy a router that runs on both a 2.4 ghz and a 5 ghz channel so you can switch if you find out there is too much interference in your area. Also, run your router on Channel 11 and check your firewall and ports. Enabling/disabiling QOS on your router might also solve some issues.

lol and btw i'm pretty sure newsgroups are significantly more oldschool than torrents, but that's a different matter.

Well, I can't help with your current problem, but switching to SKY !!! won't help at all since they have really crappy dsl connections. Are you in a cable area? If yes I would try and go for VirginMedia CABLE!! not dsl. Since I understand that you are not next door to an exchange point, cable would be the best for you.
I am with VM since 3 years, started with 2MB -> 4MB -> 20MB -> 50MB ...and I get always a bit more than I should get. Pings are ok, in CS on UK Server between 8ms to 20. European Server are like 30 -35. Download rate with rapidshare or MU between 5800 - 6400kb/s (according to Flashget). Upload abt 1,4MB.

By the way, I had Belkin routers aswell (3 in fact) and all are crappy, disconnections, suddenly slow speeds, freezing. Had the N1 Vision, N+ Wireless, N1 Wireless which are all suppose to be more or less top of the range products from Belkin.

Now I got a modem (looks great^^) and a router from VM and they are working just as they should, of course the router (DLink 615 DIR) is not one of the best and doesn't give you all the setting possibilities you would get with some other more expensive ones, but it was for free and does it's work.

Just to let you know, Virgin Media do throttle your speed during peak hours once you pass a certain threshold of data (unless you are on their 50mb package). I have had this before and its annoying but if you can deal with it then they are a decent ISP

not really I have the Belkin Wireless G and it worked great at my grandma's place...no connection drops what-so-ever...
when you suggest OP to get dual band router, OP must get a dual band card in order to take full advantage of the router's function...it is said NOT to run wireless channel 11 because is just way to common

yea virgin tend to be pretty good when it comes to speed but yea they do throttle as speeds tend to drop and fluctuate quite a bit during their peak hours. their customer service is awful as well if u have any problems. but i think their speed is generally good and they are the ones who provide the fastest broadband at the moment in the uk. besides i think every isp will have like a day when they go down or a few hours due to problems outside of their control.
