I need help! I plan on buying the q9550 cpu which has a fsb speed of 1333mhz but the ram i plan to buy is only ddr2-6400 which is 800mhz.

So does it matter if the two don't match? I understand that its better if they do match but it doesnt really make sense because the board that im using, 780i only accepts up to 1333 fsb but only up to 1200 memory.

please help... i want to pick up the parts later on today

  2. Simple answer:........ its doesn't matter........

More in-depth answer: The FSB is just the "max" speed it can communicate with the RAM (cycles/sec) if the RAM has a speed of 800Mhz it means the "max" speed it will communicate with the FSB will be 800Mhz... by overclocking you maybe be able to increase the speed at which the RAM "speaks" to the FSB, unless you are getting DDR3 ram there isn't a need to OC your FSB.....

it does a matter in a way but you probably won't notice it...imagine u have a 4-lane highway (CPU) and then it gets to a certain point (ram) and cuts down to 2-lanes, there will be bottlenecks... why not consider DDR3? or even better on the prices, just get Q6600
