Jackie Chan Celebrates Oscar Award, Avoids Questions About Elaine Ng

Jackie Chan (成龍) reacted with confusion when reporters asked him if he had any comments in regards to Elaine Ng’s (吳綺莉) arrest last week. Elaine, who had an affair with Jackie in the late 90’s, was arrested on suspicion of intimidation after their daughter, Etta Ng (吳卓林), reported her to the police. Elaine has since been released on bail, but her relationship with her daughter continues to be estranged.

Last night, a group of close friends in the industry hosted a celebration party for Jackie, who won a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Academy Awards. Jackie’s wife Joan Lin (林鳳嬌) and son Jaycee Chan (房祖名), however, were not in attendance. Jackie joked that his family has gotten bored of seeing his Oscar trophy. “They’re both very cool people. They didn’t even congratulate me,” said Jackie with a laugh.

The 62-year-old actor originally did not want to hold a celebration for his achievement, as he did not want to come off as a show-off. It took Emperor Group chairman Albert Yeung (楊受成) four months to convince Jackie to turn it into a celebration. The celebration party was also co-hosted by Eric Tsang (曾志偉), Derek Yee (爾冬陞), and John Shum (岑建勳).

“I said yes after they told me that they would invite the people whom I’ve worked with over the last few decades,” said Jackie. “They’re all old friends in the industry. This is our best chance to see them again.”

Etta Ng, Jackie’s daughter with Elaine Ng, reported her mother to the police last week. At the mention of “Little Dragon Girl”, Jackie smiled and avoided questions. He ended the interview saying, “What? What happened? Thank you everyone!”

Quite a few industry giants were invited to Jackie’s party, including Carina Lau (劉嘉玲), Jacky Cheung (張學友), Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒), Anthony Wong (黃秋生), and Yuen Biao (元彪). Anthony said he did not bring a gift for Jackie, saying, “Big Brother already has everything. I came here to congratulate him personally. He deserved it. He’s amazing and a hard worker.”

Jacky Cheung congratulated Jackie and his fellow Heavenly King Aaron Kwok (郭富城) as well, who will be tying the knot with girlfriend Moka Fang (方媛).

Nicholas Tse: “Jackie Chan Is Our Pride”

Wearing all black, Nicholas Tse offered humble words of congratulations. He said, “I’m so happy for Big Brother. He is our pride. One of us has finally stepped onto the international stage to win such a representative award.” (Do you see Jackie’s win as your goal as well?) “I’ve never thought about having those qualifications.”

Nicholas said he has no intentions on taking Hollywood, but he would not turn the offer down when the opportunity comes. He added that the Hong Kong film industry still has many great productions that are worthy to be proud of.
