Jackie Chan swearing off action films In his pursuit for breakthrough, international superstar Jackie Chan took on the role as a villain in new movie "Shinjuku Incident". In an interview with MediaCorp News, Chan revealed that his next movie might be his last action film. He also mentioned that the antique collection that he will be donating to Singapore's fourth university will be handed over after the campus construction is done in two years time. In "Shinjuku Incident", Chan acted as a Chinese illegal immigrant in Japan who became an underworld triad leader. This is a polarizing difference from his past usual police and heroic characters. Chan said he has always wanted to attempt genres outside action films but was restricted by movie production firms. "When I wanted to make "King of Western Chu", the company said no; when I wanted to make "A Touch of Class", the company said no too; when I wanted to make "Farewell My Concubine", the company said no again. My idea of the plot actually still involves actions. End of this year, there'll be a mega action film; that may be my last action film," he said. As age catches up on him, Chan said he has learned to open up; that is the reason why he chose to donate his antique collections and make contributions to the society. Chan will be donating the collections to Shanghai and Singapore. "Shanghai will start displaying the antiques first. There is already a 15mu piece of land with three houses there. It will not be called the "Jackie Chan Museum" but Jackie Chan's "movie archive". Those for Singapore will be used for educational purposes; as a study, library, a leisure centre or a pavilion for reading; it also educates the students about China's culture," he said. Chan will be in Singapore next week to promote "Shinjuku Incident" and to discuss with the Ministry of Education on the donation that will happen within one to two years.
If he doesn't do anymore Action movies what can he do? Guess he will follow Arnie and Sly in doing Comedies -rotfl
jackie cant do a comedy without having some sort of physical component... its his freakin trademark. although, this might just be like Jet Li who said he wasn't going to do any more movies
Jackie is getting old and since his trademark is doing all stunts himself he can't do it much longer. On a TV interview he said that he will play the normal guy and no hero role anymore.
