Jackie Chan tickles at Berlin film fest

A full house of international reporters cheered and applauded Hong Kong actor-filmmaker Jackie Chan after he spontaneously translated and sang in English a song from his latest movie Little Big Soldier.

At the press conference on Tuesday at the Berlin Film Festival, where his film is screening, Jackie's massive appeal was evident as media from all over the world congregated in the room. The superstar delighted them with a personal performance with his renowned humour and charisma.

However, it wasn't all laughs and jokes. The famous personality chose not to answer when confronted with politics.

Jackie also put on his serious front when speaking at a gala dinner the same night to celebrate the three Taiwanese films, Au revoir Taipei, One Day and Monga, at Berlinale. He said the three Mandarin-speaking regions of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan must work together for Chinese cinema to return to its glory days in the 1980s.

The patriot clearly thinks that there has not been much improvement in the last decade or so, and called for the authorities to help groom a new generation of film enthusiasts.

Indeed, one Chinese film is not faring well at the film festival, Zhang Yimou's A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop. The remake of the Coen brothers' 1985 crime thriller Blood Simple, has an average score of 1.8 out of 4 so far, the lowest among competing films.
