Jacqueline Law on Brink of Death; “I Refused to Eat and Drink for 10 Days!”

Despite the cheerful personality that the public often associated with former TVB actress, Jacqueline Law (羅慧娟), she had suffered extreme depression over the last decade. Jacqueline had lost complete hope in life, even asking God to grant her death to end her suffering in life. Although Jacqueline was currently battling pancreatic cancer, her religious faith gave her courage and hope in dealing with pain and loss.

Since news leaked that 45-year-old Jacqueline Law was suffering from pancreatic cancer, various reports surfaced that her situation has continually worsened. In February, it was reported that Jacqueline had stage 3 pancreatic cancer, halting all chemotherapy treatment while dropping to 80 pounds. However, recent reports conflictingly claimed that she had once again entered the hospital to resume treatment.

Jacqueline did not acknowledge or deny rumors that she had entered the hospital. She did not elaborate upon the current state of her pancreatic cancer. In a recent text message, Jacqueline simply wrote, “Thanks so much for your support. Much appreciated.”

Jacqueline’s Severe Depression and Suffering

In an interview at the end of last year, Jacqueline spoke candidly about her personal suffering over the last decade. During the 1997 financial crisis, Jacqueline’s five properties suffered negative equity. Jacqueline filmed diligently to earn more money while selling two properties. While filming in mainland China, Jacqueline entrusted a friend with a 7-figure sum to repay debts towards the remaining properties. However, her friend pocketed Jacqueline’s money and never repaid her back. Fortunately, Jacqueline continued to work hard and she was able to get through her financial troubles.

In 2005, Jacqueline suffered hearing loss after a diving accident. She had severe depression and wished to end her life. Jacqueline prayed to God, asking Him to give her cancer so that she can end her life. To end her suffering immediately, she also asked to have an auto accident. Her thoughts continued to race chaoticly, as she considered that she might not die, but rather be left with a severe disability and further pain.

Amidst her suffering, Jacqueline finally heard God speak to her directly. He assured her that her pains were not endured alone. God said to Jacqueline, “Things will first harm me, before they harm you.”

Over the years, Jacqueline’s religious faiths strengthened. However, she relapsed into depression once again in 2007. For 10 days, she did not eat any food or drink any water, inflicting extreme emotional and physical pain upon herself. Jacqueline’s belief in God finally allowed her to escape the brink of death and her self-torment.

After overcoming such dark periods of her life, Jacqueline vowed that no matter what future challenges came up, she will face them positively and without fear. She cited that although her father was diagnosed with cancer and originally advised that he had 3 months left to live, he lived for another 7 to 8 years before his death. Jacqueline carried the same faith that circumstances may have a positive turn for her as well.
