Jason Chan and Jaime Lo New Rythms For Spring

Young and vibrant, Jaime and Jason interact with the camera with natural ease and confidence. The mischievous and exuberant Jason is full of boyish charm as he pulls funny faces, plays with props, and jokes around with the crew. But it's his pearly-white smile that really encapsulates his charisma. During downtime, he makes good use of the arcade console, fully exhibiting his love for video games, which is rivaled only by his intense love for food. "I can eat the same dish from one particular restaurant for several months and never get tired of it," he declares.

Jaime, on the other hand, is a picture of quiet appeal and professionalism. Her experience as a model shows as she anticipates the photographer's whims and requests and waits patiently while the stylists primp and prime her. Jaime herself, however, doesn't particularly enjoy wearing makeup. She says, "I don't wear it unless I'm going to a function."

Despite their burgeoning ascent to stardom, simplicity and comfort remain the two young singers' fashion fundamentals. Jaime prefers classic North American brands, while Jason maintains tee-shirts and jeans are his favorite items. He's a fan of monochrome apparel, but is beginning to experiment with color and style for the stage. "I've developed a bit of a rock style with slim-fit clothing and accessories like leather straps, rings, and necklaces," comments Jason. "But in Canada I wore baggier clothing."

Having attended the same high school in Toronto, Jason and Jaime have been friends for a long time. In fact, one could say their singing careers hatched out of good friendships. For Jason, the path to stardom was dimly lit until two summers ago when he returned to Hong Kong to find work. He was given an amazing surprise by a good friend who had sent demo tapes to Sony/BMG on Jason's behalf and eventually arranged an interview for him. The rest is history. Since then, Jaime has also joined the Sony/BMG family with Jason's help, and participated in the music videos of his new singles "Stubborn" and "Cutting Correspondence".

Though the aspiring singers are on a similar path, their attitudes and approaches are rather different. The quiet and deliberate Jaime hopes to keep developing her singing skills to earn the respect of others. She also sees a singing career as an opportunity to dance. She laughs, "Dancing is not my forte, but I love it." Jason can certainly empathize: "I'm not very coordinated. I've taken classes, but I think I'll stick to singing for now."

Jason, in keeping with his direct and easygoing personality, sings for the pleasure of singing. From karaoke to participating in various singing contests, Jason's steadfast passion for singing is only topped by his zealous pursuit to perfect his craft. Regardless of what the critics say, Jason remains nonplussed as he is his own toughest critic: "I'm only meeting 70% of my expectations. When I perform live I want to do my best." After some thought, he elaborates on plans to develop his musical skills through formal studies and working in music composition and production. He would also love to collaborate with Taiwanese singer David Tao. "A live performance shows a true singer's ability to deliver an outstanding performance." Jason says, "I am motivated by great singers like David Tao and Coco Lee to improve my own live performance."

Like the opening of a musical composition, the future is brimming with promise and possibility for these two 24-year-old newcomers. Already starting on a path paved with rhythmic beats, Jason and Jaime intend to try their hands at acting, too. Their ideal roles? Jaime says, "I'd like to try some light, happy roles, then gradually move on to more complex roles." Jason jokes, "I want to be the bad guy. I'll be perfect. I have such an innocent face."

As the interview winds down, Jason and Jaime say their farewells and tokens of appreciation. For these two stars, the day is still young, the sun still shining. At the very beginning of their careers, Jason and Jaime are off to a golden start.
