Jay Chou wins most nominations for Golden Melody Awards Nominations for Taiwan 20th Golden Melody Awards (GMA) were announced on Friday. Jay Chou, nominated for eight awards with his album Capricorn, emerged as the singer with the most number of nominations. In attendance at the GMA press conference were Jolin Tsai, Sky Wu, Stanley Huang, and etc. Tsai said she is placing her bets on Eason Chen for the Best Male Singer award and Fish Leong for Best Female Singer award. She also expressed her disappointment when she found newcomer Aska Yang out of the nomination list. Huang and Wu both voted veteran Tsai Chin as their hot favourite candidate for Best Female Singer award. Wu said that though the veteran does not write her own songs, her powerful vocal chords are her best bet. With singing competition One Million Stars uncovering talents for the fifth season now, the Best New Singer award becomes the most competitive category for this year. Nominees for the award include Rachel Liang Wen-yin, Jam Hsiao and Yoga Lin from the competition, and Joanna Wang, Lu Guang Zhong and Hsiao Hung Jen. With regards to this award, resident judge at the fourth season of One Million Star and also a veteran singer, Wu, felt that a singer who composes his or her own songs is able to better express his own style and emotions and therefore have a higher chance of winning. Nominated for Best Male Singer are Eason Chen, Lee-Hom Wang, Khalil Fong, Jay Chou and blind singer Hsiao Huang Chi. Best Female Singer nominees are Tsai Chin, Fish Leong, A-Lin, Tanya Chua and Sandee Chan. "South of Border", theme song of highest grossing Taiwan movie Cape No.7 that was named Best Original Film Song on 2008 Golden Horse Awards, is also nominated Best Song of the Year in this GMA. The award ceremony will be held in the Taipei Arena at 7pm on June 27.
