Jaycee Chan Shares His Prison Life Experience

In August 2014, Jaycee Chan (房祖名) was arrested in Beijing for marijuana possession and consumption. The 32-year-old artiste, who is also the son of legendary film star Jackie Chan (成龍), was sentenced to six months of imprisonment and was earlier released in February. Yesterday, Jaycee accepted a media interview with Apple Daily and shared his prison experience for the first time.

Recalling the moment when the police handcuffed him, Jaycee expressed that he remained calm and followed all their orders. However, he felt extremely angry and unjust during his first week in prison, wondering why the law regarding marijuana in Asia is different from the rest of the world. Gradually, Jaycee’s negative thoughts faded away and he began to ponder what he really hopes for in life.

While in prison, Jaycee shared he developed an odd habit of trying to figure out the direction of the wind. He would kill mosquitoes outside and then feed them to spiders in the washroom. Some of the mosquitoes’ corpses would be stuck on the walls. The next day, Jaycee would check the positions of the dead mosquitoes’ legs to determine which way the wind blew. One time, another inmate kicked the mosquitoes off the wall, and Jaycee exclaimed in frustration, “Now how am I supposed to measure wind direction?”

Since his release, Jaycee has been residing with his mother in Taipei. He told his family prison stories while they ate dinner. Jaycee shared that he learned to gradually accept his wrongdoings and has changed for the better. Although his meals in prison mostly consisted of buns, he did not feel like it was a tough experience.

Speaking of his father, Jaycee revealed he met him in Taiwan three times since February. “Although he came for work and not specifically to visit me, it’s already considered a lot compared to before,” he said. At the moment, Jaycee is more worried about his mother’s health and slim figure. He would buy her evening snacks and has refrained from arguing against her. In the past half year, Jaycee spent his time writing songs, practicing his singing, and meeting up with friends such as Chen Bolin (陳柏霖) and Kai Ko (柯震東).

The article does make it sound like he still doesn't fully accept that he did something wrong (according to local china law).... keeps stating "he eventually accepted.." but really the local law is there, he knew it before ... he knows it now... yes it's different but its the fact you need to respect those local laws. Not get caught and go "the rest of the world accepts it"

He really doesnt' know how lucky he is.... if it was some other poor schmuck who wasn't a celebrity, could have ended up much worse... longer prison time or possibly capital punishment?...

 

Doubt it, still sounds like he thinks their system is backwards cos it 'OK' in some other parts of the world
