Spending 18 years at TVB, Joe Ma (馬德鐘) ended his management contract and left the company at the beginning of 2012. Although it was announced that Joe aligned himself with Ricky Wong’s (王維基) City Telecom, Joe did not part ways with TVB for long. Rumored that he may need to repay debts owed to TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), Joe Ma’s return may happen quicker than before you started to miss him!

Joe Ma’s upcoming drama, Tiger Cubs <飛虎>, will be airing on TVB on June 24th. Back in Hong Kong to promote the new series, Joe considered filming with TVB once again. Asked if this may be a conflict of interests since he had already aligned himself with rival station, CTI, Joe explained that he signed with a management company that focused on the mainland China market. Without signing an exclusive contract with CTI, this allowed Joe to film with any television station of his choice.

    “Miss Lok is My Savior!”

Although Joe Ma’s wife had publicly criticized Virginia Lok and TVB for their inhumane filming schedule, the women’s scuffle did not cause a rift in Joe’s friendship with Ms. Lok. In December 2011, Joe Ma became embroiled in scandalous molestation rumors with Rose Chan in Hengdian, China. Joe immediately turned to Ms. Lok for help to salvage his public image. Working her vast influence, Ms. Lok even convinced Rose’s martial arts sifu, Sin Kwok Lam, to attest that Joe had not forced himself upon Rose in any way.

Never forgetting that Ms. Lok saved him from possibly the worst scandal in his career, Joe Ma was full of gratitude. Joe said, “I have a great relationship with Ms. Lok! She is my savior and a good friend!”

Although he left TVB at the beginning of the year, Joe did not forget his roots. “I still possess fondness for TVB. I will allow my management agency to make the decision,” when asked whether he will be filming a TVB drama at the end of this year. Discussions were still taking place regarding the proposal.

Joe admitted that his only regret was that he had never won the TVB Best Actor Award. He felt that he was unable to explain to fans after being in the industry for 18 years.
