Joel Chan (陳山聰) incurred backlash when it was revealed that he divorced his wife of over ten years, Ponny Yeung (楊渡萍), for a much younger and richer Florinda Ho (何超雲). The public was quick in calling Joel to be a man who “loves to eat soft rice,” and the new relationship also allegedly led Joel to have a falling out with former best friends, Christine Ng (伍詠薇) and Sharon Chan (陳敏之). Joel, whose fan base was increasing when he was taking on prominent roles in popular dramas last year, decided to give up his chances with TVB when his relationship with Florinda came to light. Just when the general public was beginning to believe that Joel and Florinda’s love will last, a recent tabloid magazine exposed that Joel and Florinda’s relationship may be on the rocks. After attending Florinda’s mother’s birthday dinner on December 5, the couple reportedly had a big argument and have been on poor terms with each other since. The tabloid magazine claimed that Joel had been drinking extensively, and even begged Virginia Lok (樂易玲), head of TVB’s management, to arrange a comeback for him. Although Joel’s contract with TVB has not expired, he was reportedly frozen by the company for not meeting the requirements of the contract earlier this year. Asked if Joel had requested for a comeback in the industry, Virginia Lok did not give a direct answer, but implied that Joel had indeed contacted her recently. TVB producer Lee Tim Shing (李添勝) confirmed that Joel made a visit to TVB City last Friday. Tim Gor said, “I asked Joel whether he will still act or not and he said he will have to think about it.” When tabloids exposed Joel and Florinda’s rocky relationship, the couple did not step up to denounce the reports as with previous similar claims. Florinda’s younger sister, Laurinda Ho (何超蓮) did not deny nor confirm the breakup rumors, “Do not ask me! I will not answer anything about my sister’s matters!” Creds: Oncc
