Hong Kong music diva Joey Yung's recent endorsement for a sport apparels brand was reported by Next Magazine to have been clinched at a mere HK$150,000 (about S$30,000), 70 percent less than the norm. As the report affected Yung's market value in other endorsements, her management company, Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG), issued a lawyer's letter to the publishing firm, demanding clarification and an apology on the matter. EEG also does not rule out seeking monetary compensation.

Yung has maintained a healthy image since her debut and has been the preference of many advertisers. According to Hong Kong Oriental Daily News, Yung was already receiving a remuneration of over HK$150,000 during her debut 10 years ago. She was in midst of embarking on an endorsement contract worth almost a million dollars when the report by Next Magazine was published. The plans for the endorsement were then called to a halt suddenly. In sensing the severity of the situation, EEG decided to take legal action against the publishing firm.
EEG Manager, Mani Fok, was outraged and commented that the reports were "fallacious". Legal actions were taken as the endorsement value of an artiste was affected. She added that the purpose behind the lawyer's letter was to seek justice. "The magazine has been targeting our artistes, and this time, it is an even more malicious slander which invoked advertisers' doubts in the endorsement value of our artistes."
In order to shatter the false reports, Fok expressed that EEG is prepared to disclose the contract in court. She also revealed that Yung's remuneration for the endorsement was HK$2.65million far from the HK$150,000 reported by the magazine. EEG has also employed lawyers to represent the company and Yung for the matter.
Next Magazine has been asked to first elucidate the false reports and make a public apology. EEG will reserve the rights to demand for monetary compensation.
