With the decline of Cantopop, many local Hong Kong music awards have also begun to lose their credibility. TVB’s Jade Sold Gold Music Awards, which used to be one of the most prestigious music award ceremonies in Asia, took most of the bad hits, and each year has been looking less and less star-studded. But the JSG Awards, which started in 1984, have witnessed the highest and lowest points of Hong Kong music industry. The following are some of the biggest hauls in JSG history, recording some of the biggest Cantopop singers of all-time. Very true, I remember it almost being saturated with a new EP out every few months for Canto pop, now not any more. Hope it picks up again...
This was once a show I looked forward to watching. Alan vs Leslie in the 80's, then the 4 Heavenly Kings battling it out in the 90's. The decline started after that with no real rivalries, then the TVB and record company issues just removed all the stars from the competition. With lack of artists who can get the awards of course the results the past few years have been controversal.
These awards mean nothing now... it's just TVB promoting TVB artists that's it... Chik Chak awards is where it's at.
The golden era of canto pop has pass, these new artists just don't have the character and charisma of those artists in the past, their life experiences are different and you can heard it in their musics. These awards shows are pretty lame these days.
CD's, had so many in boxes. Wasted so much money on them, back in the days. Same with those, "YES" cards.
Haha you're not the only one! From YesAsia! Thank God I found this site, I saved so much $. I spent so much at YesAsia, gave them good business
