Okay I just restored my laptop to Factory condition. everything is faster and the laptop doesn't give me the blue screen of death anymore. However, after re-installing the full k-lite codec package, files that I could play smoothly before now ends up having no audio and/or choppy video. applies to both AVi and RMVB videos. I'm using VLC player instead atm but I hate it <__<. Any ideas?

And yes, I've tried uninstalling > installing etc.

Edit: whoops should've told you guys I fixed it with the help from you guys already :p.

first uninstall vlc, then uninstall k-lite. then install cccp - use media player classic

could also be a driver problem

I don't think uninstalling VLC would help, since AFAIK it doesn't register codecs on the system, but instead uses its own internal codecs.

Anyway, if you want to get to the bottom of this, then you can try to use GSpot as described in this thread. You should then be able to determine which codec is missing or giving you problems.

I'm going to second this. I used to have a few problems with k-lite but none with CCCP with MPC. With this combination you can easily play a wide variety of video.

but vlc uses it's own internal codecs thats why like u can get it on a portable stick as well. hmm...all i say though is if k-lite isn't working for u just stick to vlc for time being if that works well.

Do not use Klite. Use Combined Community Codec Pack with Real Alternative codes. It's much faster and better than Klite on slow computers.
