Kevin Cheng is Role Model for New Talent Contestants The 2007 New Talent Singing Contest held its New Zealand heats last month at Auckland's Aotea Centre, watched by 2000 people in the audience and joined by guest performers Kevin Cheng, Shirley Yeung and Bernice Liu. Although the three had travelled far to reach the event, they felt the warmth from the local fans and all tiredness qas quickly washed away. The seven male and seven female contests each had to perform individual singing acts as well as group performances and the winner emerged as Xu Zheng Zheng from Xiamen, China, who will be representing the country at the International Contest in Hong Kong at the end of the year. Runner up went to Yu Yingliang from Liaoning in China, who also won the awards for 'Best Singing Skill' and 'Most Potential'. Third place went to Cheng Wing from Taiwan. Hailing from a singing background, Kevin performed a song on the stage to act as a role model for the contestants and Bernice also performed two of her songs on the stage, captivating the audience and receiving their applause. On their visit to New Zealand, the guests made the most of the opportunity to meet their fans and the next day, they joined the three winners at Botany Town Centre mall for a special event, attracting 1000 fans, who all waited from the early morning to show their support. Many people had travelled from all over New Zealand and this was very touching for the three artistes, who repaid them with more songs and inviting some lucky fans onto the stage to play games with them, leaving them with some lasting memories.
