TVB show host and comedy-role actor Lee Hsin-chiao, 34 and popularly known as King Kong (金剛), has been allowed to leave a public prosecutor's office after a Taipei nightclub brawl when gunshots rang out. The alleged shooter, a 41-year-old man named Lan, 41, was released on bail of NT$150,000 (HK$35,700). Taiwan-born Lee and friends were set to leave a nightclub in eastern Taipei around midnight on Wednesday when a fight erupted after trouble started in a lift. One man was said to have pulled out a gun during the melee and fired five times into ceilings as Lee ran into a toilet. Police responding to a report about fighting at the club found one bullet hole in the ceiling over the bar and four more above the lobby. Two handguns and more than a dozen rounds of ammunition were seized. And three people were found to be nursing cuts and bruises. Claims in local media were that some of Lee's friends were gang members, though it is not clear if any were among 11 people arrested in the wake of the brawl, which police were continuing to investigate last night. Lan had by then claimed he was trying to stop the fight by firing a warning shot into a ceiling. Lee and other people who were led from the club by officers were first taken to a police station then transferred to the Taipei district prosecutor's office. Besides Lee, others were let go yesterday evening but then became involved in another fight outside the prosecutor's office. They were re-arrested. Meanwhile, Lee was saying he had been talking business with friends when a "chaotic" situation developed. Lee, who claimed not to know the gunman, was asked if he was involved in such a situation before. He responded: "Do you think we are filming?" Lee's career took off in Hong Kong in 2007, becoming familiar because of his accented Cantonese when hosting TVB show Super Trio Game Master. The King Kong nickname came from a role he played in Spicy Teacher, a popular Taiwanese television series. Lee's girlfriend, fellow TVB artist Yuri Chan Yui-yui, said Lee was planning to set up a food business in Taiwan. Cred: The Standard HK / Apple Daily HK
