Anyone catch the series Comrades and or Road Number One ?

Interesting modern revisionist take on the Korean conflict from their media, with a lot of artistic license. I'm about halfway through with Comrades (and also saw the first few eps of Rd#1), and find it to be a rather limp Korean remake of more popular US styled war storytelling. I mean, Saving Private Ryan this ain't, and that's a real shame. The Korean conflict from the POV of Koreans is a very important story that needs telling.

Also, the stories have been wrapped in a nationalistic and sanitized container to make it a better sell. The Syngman Rhee government at the time was a despotic paranoid self serving entity that was arguably no better than the communists that they railed against (modern evidence irrefutably demonstrated that ROK troops massacred Korean citizens in efforts to stamp of red sympathizers; sometimes to the point of exterminating entire villages). Still, shows like this serve to remind Korean (as well as interested international) audiences that there was and continues to be huge political and historic questions that need to be addressed between the north and south.

I saw the series, I have to say it was pretty good overall, love ones on opposite sides fighting one another and the tragedy of war. The bond and friendships that are made. Since it's made in South Korea, you know it's going to be more bias on making them look good, certain part of the series they intentionally made themselves seem more like super heroes.

It was a well made drama overall.

I didn't particularly like the ending of Comrades...

actors seemed to die off in the last few episodes. Also, having the main hero kill the deserter and then his own lover too, was a bit of a stretch. I think that they should have ended it with the two parting ways with their relationship unresolved. That would be sort of symbolic of the state of the two Koreas right now.
