Former EXO members Kris Wu (吳亦凡) and Lu Han (鹿晗) have announced through their own independent studios that their lawsuit with Korean agency S.M. Entertainment has come to an end.

On Thursday afternoon, Kris and Lu Han each released their own statements through their respective studios, announcing that they have reached a settlement with S.M. Entertainment. The two former Chinese members of EXO have been in contract disputes with the K-pop agency since 2014.

According to their statements, the two members and their representatives have finally reached a settlement with the Korean agency in court. Kris and Lu Han said they can now freely pursue and develop their careers in China without the control of S.M. Entertainment. They thanked their fans and lawyers for their supportive efforts in the past two years.

S.M. Entertainment’s legal representatives have also released a similar statement. They also added that Kris and Lu Han’s contracts with S.M. Entertainment are still valid, and they will continue to be until 2022, when it terminates. While they will be able to freely hold activities in China as well as seek the service of another agency, they must be under S.M. Entertainment’s management if they wish to hold activities in Korea and Japan.

Kris and Lu Han debuted as members of EXO in 2012. They were part of EXO-M, EXO’s Mandarin-singing subgroup that comprised of four Chinese members and two Korean members. In May 2014, Kris filed a lawsuit against S.M. Entertainment, claiming that his contract with the K-pop agency was invalid due to its excessive length, unfair profit distribution, and more. Lu Han filed a similar lawsuit in October 2014.

In August 2015, EXO faced its third lawsuit when the band’s third Chinese member, Huang Zitao (黃子韜), filed for contract nullification against S.M. Entertainment. His lawsuit is still ongoing.

I also read a portion of their earnings are going back to SM too? Not sure if it's just activities in Korea/Japan or all of their activities.

Crappy ass want to be singers. Stick to acting or dancing around, just don't sing those horrible mandarin/kpop style songs.

I'm pretty sure they're singers turnt "actors". If they stayed in EXO it would've been fine for K-Pop style song. But Chinese "K-Pop" style songs sounds weird, and I'm not talking about the k-pop songs that are sung in Chinese version. IMO Chinese songs sound best when it isn't pop.

It was an article from AKP, but the way they worded the sentence was weird (like all of their articles..) But I don't think we'll ever know the actual percentage SM receives, I just consider it a win-win from both sides. SM gets money from the two until the contract ends, and Kris/Luhan are technically free from SM to promote in China. I suppose Tao's case will end up the same more or less.

Just wondering do you follow their careers now? As in do you listen to their music and watch their dramas/movies now?

When Luhan was in EXO he wasn't bad and was one of the better singers in EXO. He obviously wasn't the best in EXO but IMO it's passable. On the other hand his newer songs right now it's pretty cringe. I think I give him the benefit of the doubt by saying it's not a song for him making him look like a bad singer. I don't think Kris and Tao sung much as they had more of a rapper role in EXO. I don't follow what they're doing in China right now.

Acting? I don't know.. Kris's acting is pretty cringe to me. I think I'd rather listen to Luhan (in EXO) than Kris's acting.

For acting, they aren't lead role material yet, can be a support role standing around and throw a line or few. I'd rather watch them in a film than sit-down and listen to a Chinese album they sang. Just my opinion Jeffy =)

Fair enough. I'm not a fan of Tao's voice either. I'd say Luhan is the best out of the 3 in singing cause he could actually if given the right song lmao.

Don't know how people feel about oniontaker.. but apparently essentially it is:

    1. Original contract length. 2. Can't work in JP/KR w/o SM. 3. Pay SM to work everywhere else.

Unfortunately for you, they are lead role material and have several movies where they're the lead coming out throughout the year. I won't speak on their music because even as a fan I think they could do better, but I find it weird that you're speaking so harshly when you probably don't even know much about their careers???

Also, just a note - as someone who has followed Korean entertainment for so many years and now no longer do.. I can confirm that Korean media really puts out super biased articles. For example, they made articles criticizing Kris' film, acting like it flopped, and claims that Chanyeol's Chinese movie was a success. In reality, Kris' movie made 300+ million whereas Chanyeol's was only about 80 million..

Oniontaker is full of shit, honestly. According to both Kris and Luhan's studios, they are free to individually manage their own activities everywhere but Korea and Japan - which is where SM comes in. They don't mention the thing about giving part of their profits to SM but back in October of last year, Luhan's side already stated that they were willing to settle with SM and give them 10% of his profits. I know one of the kfans who went to the hearings and she also confirmed this back then. No one is really sure how much they're going to give them now, if any, and/or how long it will be that way.
