TVB's 2006 Anniversary awards ceremony will be held on Friday, November 10th. There will be a tight race for the Best Series and Best Variety Program awards.

"La Femme Desperado" starring Sheren Tang Shui Man and Michael Tse Tin Wah and Bobby Au Yeung's "Forensic Heroes" are the front-runners in to win the Best Series Award due to their high ratings and critical acclaim.

As for the Best Variety Program Award, the hottest contenders are "Beautiful Cooking" and "On the Road." The former program is renown for its outlandish humor and the year's most outstanding ratings, while "On the Road" showcases a raw and emotionally moving side of human nature.

This year's anniversary features 22 series fighting for the Best Series Award. This includes "Dance of Passion" produced by Chik Kei Yi, which featured the original cast of "War and Beauty" and was shot on a grand budget. Combined with its aggressive marketing, "Dance of Passion" was highly anticipated by the audience, however its hype did not meet expectations and average ratings were only 32 points (2.08 million viewers).

Myolie Wu's "To Grow with Love" is a dark horse candidate in the Best Series Award race. But the attention is on producer Poon Ka Tak's "La Femme Desperado." Despite its small budget and low-key marketing, the series succeed and won critical acclaim due to the acting expertise of Sheren Tang.

"La Femme Desperado's" average ratings were 34 points (2.18 million viewers). Along with "Forensic Heroes," "La Femme Desperado" scored 2006's highest ratings. According to Appledaily's survey of 60 viewers on the street, over half of the respondents supported "La Femme Desperado" due to its emotional ability to involve the audience.

What the Artists Have to Say:

Charmaine Sheh: "I will support my own series, 'Maiden's Vow.' In the series, I play a character from young to old age, which is a new challenge. The most important thing is that this series gives a refreshing feeling. As for variety programs, I love watching 'Beautiful Cooking' as it is highly entertaining. There is rarely a variety program as humorous; each time I watch it, I can not stop laughing."

Roger Kwok: "I support 'La Femme Desperado.' First of all Sheren Tang's acting was awesome and its exploration on modern female issues is unprecedented. For variety programs, I support 'On the Road.' The best aspect of the program is the deep, raw feelings revealed by the artists, such as the memorable appearance of Law Ka Ying expressing his deep love for Liza Wong Ming Chuen."

Lai Lok Yee: "I think 'Land of Wealth' is a good series. Due to the filming in Beijing, the scenery is beautiful, so I believe it has a good chance in winning an award. 'On the Road' has a high chance to win in the variety program category due to its emotionally wretching subject matter.'

Akina Hong Wah: "'Maiden's Vow' is a refreshing series. Many actors would have loved to act in such a challenging series. Aside from its humor, 'Beautiful Cooking' is also quite educational."
