Leon Lai of Amusic files a lawsuit against Neway for infringement

The day before yesterday, Neway announced their success in purchasing California Red Karaoke. Yesterday Leon Lai's record company Amusic said that Neway violated the agreement between they had and Neway did not respect the contract terms.

Amusic said that they started collaborating with Neway Karaoke Box LTD in 2004, authorizing the use of their songs by Neway all over Hong Kong and Macau. The other day, Amusic discovered that Neway violated two of the terms in the agreement including: (1) alleged unauthorized use of the <You Understand My Love> MV (Duet by Leon Lai and Zhang Ziyi) ; (2) alleged authorize of foreign regions including ShenZhen, GuangZhou and Malaysia to use Amusic singers Leon Lai, Miriam Yeung, Janice Vidal, Jill Vidal, Michael Liang, Charles Ying and Aarif Lee with numbers surpassing a hundred.

    Not worried about affecting promotions
Towards Neway violating the agreement, Amusic's CEO (Wong Hoi Man) expressed: "Our company already sent out the legal letter to Neway during the Lunar New Year. On March 9th, we received a response from Neway and will formally file a lawsuit against Neway for infringement." As Neway just purchased California Red Karaoke, monopolizing the market, will there be worries about affecting singers under Amusic promotions? Mr. Wong expressed: "Karaoke is entertainment for the public, but is absolutely not something record companies use for promotions. Also Neway should really respect the property rights and the contract." As for Neway, they have not responded to the issue.
