Life is like a Roller Coaster; A hard working Ron Ng for so long If it wasn’t for TVB handing an “Old card” to Ron Ng, it is very hard to believe that he’s been working in TVB for 10 years. His rumours have come one after the other but whether these rumours are true of false, only Ron would be sure. In 2006 was one of the black years and he was treaded on every time. Obviously it hurt, but these past two years he has stayed out of the spotlight and went to the Mainland to earn some money. 2009 is finally a year for him to return because within this year he will have 4 series to air sweeping away all the bad luck around the corner. Saying Ron has fate with girls isn’t going overboard, with Ella Koon who ‘left him’, and then the rumours about picking up Charmaine in the Audi and then rumours with Toby Leung. The newest one has been about the Boy killer Elanne Kong. Ron even admitted that every time he filmed a new series he would always have rumours with his partner. “In actual fact I’d like to thank TVB for their supervision as every time I film a new series I have a new partner and especially female star. It was only with Joey Yung when I had no rumours. Whether the rumours are true or false, the readers will have their own thoughts. Like when Ella Koon came to my house the other time, it was actually a whole group who came up to visit after taking over 100 photos and in the end they only used one to be the cover. I wont say anymore on it as its already the past. With Charmaine, we had all finished filming the series and so she had to go to Macau to work, so does that mean I can’t help her? It was just convenient for me to drop her off and then this became the cover story but never mind, I know how the game goes and I hope the readers will understand”. Falling in love with the Female lead As for his rumours Ron Ng speaks with confidence and likes to talk about others. He doesn’t present a nervous and worried personality maybe because the circumstances have changed over time, or his point of view has changed. Only he himself knows well. Ron admitted he loves to film romantic/relationship series and every time he films these he always falls in love with his partner but of course this is not within the month of filming. “I really enjoy talking about the sweet feelings, and if you ask me whether I’ve actually fallen in love with my partner I can answer you, definitely. I feel that if you don’t go and understand your partner and love them the relationship seems somehow fake. The audiences are very alert and if you aren’t into it enough they can point it out easily. Sometimes when I watch a series with my niece she can always point out when there are no feelings between the pairing. I think that when you film a romantic/relationship scene you have some exchange with your partner and fall in love with them. This is why directors don’t film these scenes the first day you start work. Of course when you finish filming this scene or the series I will lose this status and return to my conscience. This is what an artist must feel when they film these series. In 1998 when Ron started out as a dancer he was on a roller coaster with ups and downs. When he was thought to have borrowed money of Louis, it was like the whole world hated him and whatever he did even if it was a statement, a sentence or even a reaction. “From young I haven’t had good communication skills or maybe I just haven’t understood how to express my feelings properly. When I first entered the industry I was like innocent one, and as I continued to become closer to others I understood the first impression was very important. Just like my good friend Raymond Lam, his EQ is really high and when reporters ask inquisitive and smart question he will stop for a while and think before he answered. He is very superficial and will think about others feelings, this is his biggest strength. Obviously he has learnt this from family and his education and I slowly began to learn how to talk with the reporters. Obviously you have to be bold but cautious when you talk to reports to make everyone comfortable. But this doesn’t mean you have to lie but just use another method to answer the question.” In 2004 he filmed Triumph in the Skies with Bosco Wong, Sammul Chan and Kenneth Ma all becoming the S4. In terms of success in the last two years and the responsibilities they’ve been given, only Ron was left far behind. “In this world it isn’t only me and I’m glad that my partners have reached their potential and I hope that all the flowers will bloom together. In actual fact between artists it is not a blind competition, it is a patient one because I love the industry and just talking with others and learn about other people’s merits. I dare say that Ron Ng doesn’t go and fight over things and won’t go tread on others’ shoulders. I only hope that everyone will keep up with everything and that when everyone has their own image it will make TVB brighter.” Bad image after the Louis Koo incident In the past there has been a lot of news about Ron, something about borrowing 500 000 HK from Louis Koo to buy an expensive car to compete against Bosco Wong. The most memorable one was when he mispronounced favourite as “Mai fei fut”. This made Ron want to leave the entertainment circle. “These reports will affect the image of an artist and it is difficult to overcome but these problems will only help me to improve. I don’t believe that when a person is born they will rise immediately, if everyone was like Andy Lao they wouldn’t know the problems in the future you are faced with and it would be hard to take. As for Andy he climbs up one step at a time. Setbacks can only help you have the strength to go further and face the negative news. I’ve been discouraged before and these reports have affected my family. Like before when there was news about me borrowing money from Louis, when reporters write these stories they don’t take responsibility for it and don’t even think about how others feel. When this story was released, my family/relatives were all worried and called me to ask, it had a big impact. The pressure was immense and it was like I couldn’t breathe and the worst part is that when my family think it is true it makes my mum really worried. At that point in time I thought about why I even entered the industry in the first place? Did I enter the wrong place? Then last year there the rumours about me buying a car for 100 000 HK, it was all from my hard work and it was my home and car I spent a bit more on it. And on that day I didn’t have my register fee paid and so I used the car which had the fee paid and so when I was about to drive back to the industry there were reporters waiting at my place and even said I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the car; I just couldn’t say anything.” Learning how to be patient There has always been news about TVB having senior Dinner parties, asked whether Ron has been before? “I’ve never sat down to have a meal by myself with seniors; the entertainment circle isn’t as bad as it sounds. One year in TVB is equivalent to three years in the outside world. Everyday you interact with different people, and you use a different tone with different people and it really tests you. In the past I was very stubborn, I liked justice and if people said the wrong things I would immediately say something and sometimes it will make the people around me feel bad. I now understand that everyone has difficulties and can speak about others and when I’m faced with an injustice situation I would stop and think and just do the best I can in my work and then tell them later. Before when I first started filming when my PA was doing the wrong thing I would immediately point out the problem but not long after I understood that the PA had many responsibilities and a lot of work and sometimes will do wrong things. I will just wait when there is no one around and just tell them about it to prevent them from getting scolded by the director next time.” Not being able to be a normal person again After entering the industry for 10 years, Ron Ng who will be 30 this year was asked how he saw those past 10 years. “Those 10 years have had the ups and downs and I have met many people and especially myself. I’ve been working more than I have been staying at home. If my series is enjoyed by the audience, if I’m in the mainland, South East Asia or even in Canada I will have fans, and it is hard to put this happiness into words. Of course I’ve lost a lot, firstly in my young years and I haven’t had time to see my friends. When I entered the industry my friends invited me out 10 times for meals and those 10 times I never went. Being an artist gives you no private time, and you can’t go wrong. But I understand that if you just continue to go further you can’t go back and be a normal person.” Going back to Mainland to film; Ron Ng takes the opportunity. In the past year filming in the Mainland, the audience thought that TVB had released Ron Ng. In fact he was really happy in the Mainland and never had the feeling of giving up. “Last year I did fewer interviews and attended less functions, which is why everyone has thought I was out of the spotlight but I was actually filming in the Mainland. The media always say that the company has organised you to go back to the Mainland to release you but the company actually puts you to one side and actually doesn’t need you to go to the Mainland. I really enjoyed working there because your first honour is higher than the one in Hong Kong. The second time I went back the reaction was bigger, like when I filmed Life and Death last year, it was aired in different parts of the mainland and the response was really good. Two days ago I came back from Shen Zhen; the third time in the Mainland I had lots of time to rest and work and it isn’t like Hong Kong how everything is rushed. When I went back last year I wasn’t use to the weather and always got sick. It may be because in Hong Kong no matter how hard and tiring it was, when I got home to have a shower it made me feel much better. Even my Mum’s nice soup made it all better. But when in the Mainland I felt I was very tiring and when I went back to the hotel I would be faced with four walls and I would just miss Hong Kong but I got use to it quickly. I find that in the Mainland it is much better as there is little entertainment news which helps me focus more on my script and work. Watch EU to stay away from Drugs On the day of the interview, it was just a coincidence that Kelvin and Janice possessed marijuana in Japan. Ron expressed his concern to both of them and even said that his friends smoked it and he nearly did too. “A long time ago my friends ask me to try it but when I knew what it was I rejected the offer. My friends know I don’t take it so they don’t make me. Nowadays the young ones have many serious situations and the government really needs to educate them. Everyone should watch Emergency Unit and you will understand that good people will have good returns and vice versa. Translated by: Sammy @ ronforever.com Source: Wenweipo
surprisingly some of the stuff he mentions is quite interesting. it is true that ppl in this field will have to give up their private life. wat more depressing is to see those around you rise and while you are still at the same lvl.
