German Loremo AG will introduce their ultra Efficient Car at the Motor Show 2006 (site) in Geneva next week. The car start-up developed a light-weight passenger car with outstanding aerodynamics. The Loremo LS is powered by a 2 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine with 20 hp and 160km/h top speed. The amazing thing is that the Loremo only needs 1.5l per 100km. This is approx. 157MPG! The Toyota Prius hybrid has only 55MPG (combined city and highway). With one tank (20l) you could drive 1,300km. Loremo AG plans to sell the Loremo LS for less than 11,000 Euros (~$13,000). One reason for the low consumption is the low weight of 450kg. The company designed the Loremo focusing on safety and efficiency and got rid of unnecessary functions. The car is small but still provides space for 4. The design of the car is very futuristic and has for instance no conventional doors. Loremo AG also plans to offer the Loremo GS with a bit stronger engine (50 hp, 2.7l/100km) that reaches top speeds of 220km/h (for the German Autobahn). i think it looks ugly because of the aerodynamics used, it does look more tear drop shaped then most cars...
I've never liked hybrids as it's nothing but hype. Clean burning diesels are awesome. Fuel cell cars will replace it all eventually.
its going to be a very! long time before gas cars are replaced..mire like a progression to hybrid...then full out conversion...
Well gas cars will always be around because there's too many gas cars on the road, but eventually fuel cell vehicles will be sold in the masses. At which point, hybrids will be completely dead. The reality is that hybrids don't really save you much gas in our market. Too much highway driving (at which point, the motor is almost always on). Another myth is that people think they can save on gas money? One of the craziest ideas ever. It cost SEVERAL thousand dollars to change out the batteries in those cars. You MUST change the battery every several years. A scion XA can get you 40mpg, some turbo diesels in Europe already do 50+mpg. Once US can start supplying clean burning diesel fuel, diesels will probably catch on faster than hybrids. These are the reasons why I say hybrids are a big hype. Fuel Cell vehicles are a true solution to emission friendly and a way to keep costs down (once it becomes mass produced). There's are reason why so many car companies are putting lots of money for R&D in fuel cell yet you only see a few companies supply the niche market with hybrids.
looks pretty impressive but its probably slow as hell and expensive to buy. The handling must be decent though since its so light
