Hong Kong veteran actress Louise Lee (李司棋) ended her 40-year relationship with TVB when she decided to not extend her contract after shooting the comedy drama Romantic Repertoire <水髮胭脂> in 2014. The 65-year-old has since left Hong Kong to retire in the Chinese city of Zhongshan, northwest of Hong Kong.

According to various reports, Louise’s decision to end her TVB contract was due to health. The long filming hours took a toll on her health; she also had a history of cervical cancer, and the strenuous filming hours may lead to a relapse.

Though Louise has retired from acting, she would occasionally make an appearance on an i-Cable food program. When she was not working, she would return to her home in Zhongshan to live a much more slow-placed and comfortable retired life.

The Hong Kong paparazzi followed Louise all the way to Zhongshan, and saw that Louise is currently living comfortably in a four-story luxury villa, surrounded by a large garden. She would occasionally leave her home to visit a Chinese medicine clinic in the city, where she would receive a tuina — a type of acupressure treatment. Louise appears to be a regular visitor, as she is very close to the clinic’s staff.

Louise joined the entertainment industry after graduating from the artist training course provided by the now-defunct Rediffusion Television in 1968. She was then transferred to TVB under the recommendation of TVB producer Robert Chua (蔡和平), and worked behind-the-scenes for the TVB comedy show Enjoy Yourself Tonight <歡樂今宵>. She left TVB a year later for the movie industry, but returned to TVB in 1971 and starred in numerous classic television dramas. Together with Liza Wang (汪明荃), Gigi Wong (黃淑儀), and Angie Chiu (趙雅芝), Louise was considered as one of the hottest fadans of the late 70’s and early 80s.

Over the last few decades, Louise has worked with several stations in Hong Kong and overseas. When she returned to TVB in 2007 to film Heart of Greed <溏心風暴>, her popularity skyrocketed once again, and she won Best Actress at the TVB Anniversary Awards for her role. The drama’s sister production, Moonlight Resonance <溏心風暴之家好月圓>, was an even larger success, breaking viewership ratings records.

damn didn't know she had cancer...hope she's recovering. Seems like a good financial move also. I don't think ZhongSan's cost of living is as high as Hong Kong's.

Where are the KIDS?! Where are the people around her? I hope she seeks treatments to genuinely help herself. She is and was and will be one of the BEST. Her dialogue, teachings and character is like no other. HK people need her!! Hope TVB allows her to become a special guest.

She should enjoy her life. TVB better except coming back from time to time whenever she wants.

Is she living with her family cause the article seem to make me believe she's living alone. I hope her family is around.

I don't get why she lives in Zhongshan not Canada? She has a Canadian passport and her daughter lives in Ontraio.
