Currently a freelance artist, former TVB actress Maggie Cheung (張可頤) has expressed her interest in working with different entertainment companies and are exploring her options. Recently, Maggie appeared on a Cable Television food program hosted by former TVB artist, Mimi Lo (羅敏莊). On the show, Maggie shared with Mimi her current career direction while discussing about food and lifestyles. In 2005, Maggie was diagnosed with thyroiditis and had to put her career on hold for two years in order to recover. Maggie explained that she has become much more cautious about the food she eats and drinks, revealing that she often cooks up her own fish maw, drinks more water and eats more organic foods. Maggie primarily pursues a healthy “free and natural” lifestyle. She said, “I filmed a lot of mainland Chinese dramas a while back, and one day [the staff] treated me a dish of water beetles. The appearance is not pleasant at all, but I dared myself to try it anyways. Actually, foods don’t need to be very luxurious. Some genuine and authentic foods like [the beetles] can be very special too. In addition, the [type of] food comes second, as it is more important to share it with close family and friends.” Currently single, Maggie is enjoying her freedom. “I really enjoy acting and having to experience different characters. It’s as if I have walked different lives. My most memorable experience was when shooting an earlier mainland Chinese drama. The filming was laborious but I feel very lucky to have come across my character. If only I can do another heart-rending character and story, I’d have no regrets.” Dayo Wong (黃子華) and Kristal Tin’s (田蕊妮) TV King and Queen wins this year have caused some debate. As a former TV Queen herself, Maggie was asked on her thoughts about the winners and nominees. She said, “Don’t take offense. When it comes to these awards, it really relies on luck. Of course, awards are a sense of encouragement for the actors, as it acknowledges hard work.” She further added her thoughts about what it means to be a competent actress, saying, “An actor must have to go through experiences in order to portray his or her role thoroughly and vividly. Maturity in your soul and thoughts will come to a maturity in acting. If you are stuck at one level, then your acting will always be on the surface. It will come off as superficial. On the other hand, if you have the experience, even one expression and one look in the eye can bring more depth to the character.” Creds: Oncc
