A mysterious man, known by the name “Boss Lau” (劉老闆), purchased $3.5 million HKD worth of male model photo albums on the opening day of the 2013 Hong Kong Book Fair. The models who starred in the photo albums – Chrissie Chau’s (周秀娜) fellow GME juniors Dominic Ho (何浩文), Gym (顧又銘), and King Chiu (趙勁皓) – went to the book fair yesterday to publicly thank Boss Lau for his support. At a cost of $148 HKD per book, 8,000 prints of each of the three photo albums were shipped to the book fair. Before the official release date, a mysterious man known by “Boss Lau” contacted the book fair organizers and asked to purchase all copies of the trio’s photo albums, totaling 24,000 books that are worth $3.5 million HKD in total. The man was reported to have said, “I want them all! Give me every single copy!” The trio’s manager, Roy Kwong, expressed, “In my five-year collaboration with the book fair, this was the first time I have ever heard of such a thing. He purchased all 24,000 books at once. That’s several million dollars.” Roy also added, “The organizers of the book fair originally wanted to give him a discount, but he didn’t ask for one. The book fair gave him one anyway.” Did Boss Lau ask for anything else? “He approached us through a middle man, and he wanted the three boys to thank him in public at the Wednesday book fair!” answered Roy. Dominic, Gym, and King posted a message of gratitude to Boss Lau on their Weibo. At the book fair, the trio also held a sign that read “[Our] earnest thanks to Boss Lau” and publicly thanked the mysterious man in front of the media. “It has been a long time since a [male artist] last released a photo album,” said Dominic. “He probably really liked how all three of us have decided to release albums at the same time.” Could this mysterious Boss Lau be Lau Ding Sing (劉定成), the wealthy businessman who gained widespread media attention for his extensive photo collection of shirtless, muscular men? “I don’t think so,” replied Dominic. “We’ve never met nor communicated with him before, but we should meet up with him so we can thank him personally.” Dominic revealed that GME will try to reach out to the mysterious buyer. Although all prints of the photo book are sold out, GME announced they will order reprints and hopefully have them available for purchase again before the book fair ends on Tuesday, July 23.
