A 23-year-old man has been charged with drunken driving following the death of former "American Idol" contestant Alexis Cohen, police in New Jersey said Monday.

Daniel Bark was arrested Sunday evening and is being held in lieu of 35,000 U.S. dollar bail, said Michael Mohel, Ocean County deputy prosecutor.

He appeared Monday in state Superior Court on charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Prosecutors say the charges have been upgraded to aggravated manslaughter and drunken driving.

Cohen, whose profanity-laced rant on national television garnered her a bizarre sort of fame, was struck by a car and killed Saturday in the New Jersey shore town of Seaside Heights.

The body of the 25-year-old Allentown, Pa., resident was found about 4 a.m. by two passersby who called 911.

Bark faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, if convicted, according to the entertainment news website TMZ.
