This particular Sink Hole has been around a while, with the most likely cause being the Salt Mining Company that destabilized the grounds, allowing water to seep into the partially collapsed salt domes and liquefying them. I'm pretty sure that all those people living in that town will have to be permanently evacuated, much like how the thousands of towns around the globe with Underground Coal Fires were also mostly permanently abandoned.

But... Remember this? Lake Peigneur :punk:

Was that sped up!?! The way it engulfed the tree was surprisingly quick for me

Kev, you have to remember these are sink holes, some are really big and will take anything into it.

Some people got taken from sink holes and were never found again cause they were so deep.

Scary...especially in those places from those links, but it can happen anywhere.

Damn I was expecting it to be a bit slower, like slowly drawing the objects into the hole. Maybe because I associated sinkhole with quicksand, I think of it as some sticky material like wet sand clogged up. Hard to describe but still scary nevertheless.
