Do you think the media are being bias in the Beijing olympic torch relay? I mean i feel we are trick to believe that there are massive demonstration on China's politic, but isn't it a bit bias because we american don't like their human rights record? What do you guys thing?
well... it's not exactly media bias, there is some bias, but the demonstrations for the most part are real and qute large... the one in SF was incredibly large... they shut down an entire street and altered the running route in an effort to bypass rioting... Do I think they're blowing it completely out of proportion... to some degree I do... but then generally the intelligent will be able to decide themselves about how they feel without being swayed by media, you just hope you have some of those people in office...
Criticisms of the truthfulness of the press has been a question since the days of Joseph Pulitzer and Yellow Journalism. Granted the history of the media is replete with examples of sensationalism, biased one sided reportage; however, by and large, most of the media in the US is vetted by their peers and cannot survive if their reportage strays too far afield from the truth. If anyone has ever seen the movie about Edward R Murrow, and how the McCarthyism that swept the country back then, and how the government attempted to control the press, you'll appreciate how far US journalism has come. And don't think for a second that we're immune to such manipulation. That is why people must always question the press overall Ralph
There is no such thing in the world as no bias... It's very hard for Media to portray an issue on a equal playing field
I think the press are to some extent bias, alot more focus has been about the protests than about the meaning and value of the olympics. The olympics isnt about politics, and if the media stops focusing on the protests and about the set up china has been through to get this up and running, there will be no point in the protests as they just want the media attention.
