With the milk tainting scandal, that was a "God Damn..." moment; with today's admission by the PRC, this is an "Oh Shit..." moment, as it affects the entire food chain of animal derived products. If you eat or have eaten anything made from an animal product in the PRC within the last few years, you've probably eaten Melamine. If you live overseas, but eat animal derived products that were made in China, you're probably eaten Melamine. In a rush? For a quick synopsis, just read the red highlighted lines. So it looks like the Milk Scandal was just a harbinger and only the tip of the iceberg. The PRC has allowed the slow poisoning its people; when is it going to stop? And, an update on the milk scandal, from the PRC's own press:
OMGGGG.....-shock -shock.....THE POOOOOR BB'S.... CHINA FOOOODS ARE SOOoO BADD....CANT BELIEVE ITS HIT EGGGS AS WELL....WHERES THE END..?!
wow.... that is ridiculous..... but yet im not surprised... i knew that milk scandal was only a hint at what the PRC manufacturing companies were hiding
i think we gonna be in trouble .. it's one of the largest trading partners of the US .. yikes .. we will all be affected then .. cuz the practice has been around for sometimes now and only come to light recently ... not good.
lol, it's ok, we're fine... the US has strict rules on food, that includes all imports... infact i believe a lot of Chinese brand products are banned newayz... this egg thing is also old news really... my family in HK had all ready been careful while eating eggs from China a long time ago...
those are only the so called "reported" numbers... and im sure we'll never ever get to hear the "real" figures... and y m i not surprised...
It's really pitiful that these things happen, I hate the mentality they have of trying to make a quick buck outta everything. I dont get why they cant comprehend that if you have a decent business and you run it with a long term focus its much better and sustainable for the country. China's is rising as an intergral part of this world but it still lets itself get caught up in silly things like this.. it really is a pity...
I guess the problem always existed, just sitting for a burst. For quite a few years I received accounts from friends in Hong Kong and Macao the existence of fake mineral water, eating salt, soy sauce, "recycled" oil, etc... but the damages was limited intra-China. Only this time the quick buck also spread to the so called multinationals companies , M&M, Nestle, Lipton, Danone, Cardbury ....
all things said, these chinese companies are bathing the brand of China in really dirty mudd. how can they expect to regain customer trust ever again.
yeah but ya'll are local and can figure things out .. as a tourist, i'd have no clue. how can you tell whether the restaurant (in HK) use safe practice selecting the ingredients. sometimes, ppl go for the cheap stuffs .. just too hard to say .. knowing and practicing is very different in reality. gotta stop it from the source down if possible.
well hk is fairly safe tbh cos the food standards are strict, it's a lot different to china. but yea i knew about this anyway just have to be careful in china, i think they have like fake beer and stuff as well. this is just cos some people want to make more money and get on the market and to do so they offer cheaper gds but in order to do that they have to cut corners. pity rele.
i think hk used to be better... but since takeover... its all downhill and its all cos of the ways mainland controlling it... nothing unexpected... its a pity how those ppl think... $$ over everything else, not caring abt anything else but themselves... but thats how its always been there... and another reason to this date i still hate them and everything about it... funny how all the portrayed history is sooooooo different to wat reality is
i don't know but to me .. these "chinese" people have no conscience. i understand it's hard to earn a living but how can you sleep at night knowing what you do can potentially kill someone. to me, you're no different than the one holding the gun/knife when you cut corner like that. i think the chinese government should severely punish these ppl. when you export, it's like national pride goods and quite frankly, they're so badly made these days that some don't even wanna spare the $1 to buy it. who knows, if it's not lead, it could be cardboard, or somethings so it's best to stay away. of course, other country may be doing the same, who knows but chinese themselves have single-handedly undervalued their own goods. sad.
yeah in the USA they are starting to react to the news but as ofr Australia Bubble Cup and Moonshine Milk tea is still being sold regards of the news. Bubble Cup and all milk tea produced in taiwan and china has been taken away but as for overseas i dont think so
As far as I'm concerned this is a total lack of proper governance by the PRC. Unscrupulous people abound the world over; this is nothing specific to Chinese culture or ethnicity. You find greed of this magnitude in Russia, the US, and even in normally problem free places like Hong Kong, or Japan. The only difference is that in the other places, those governments are willing to accept the responsibility of policing industry. In the PRC, this is what is sorely missing and it has begun to attain a level that it impacts China both as a nation and as an international trading partner. China has always been loathe to rein in its local corruption excesses as these generally are perpetrated by its own political base (local Communist Party officials). If they were to arrest these people, they risk losing control over the local or regional political processes. Hence, many of these local illegalities have been ignored by Beijing for years. Now it's grown to such a level that China cannot afford to keep ignoring it. The central government must make a decision to step in, or else the PRC's future in the world economy will be in doubt.
that's true, prc lacks policing but i certainly hope people still retain the conscience side despite their greed. when you lose that, you'll become the slave of money. on the national level, it will lose a lot more if things are not cleaned up soon. you gotta be able to manage the country within before you can move to the "big" world outside.
You're absolutely right with that assessment. However, be mindful that such criticisms usually invoke the "China Bashing Reflex" from ardent Chinese nationalists, and even many within the Chinese diaspora. That is, claims by pro-China adherents that charges of Chinese impropriety is groundless, as it is based solely upon anti-China political motivations. They look upon such as a direct affront to their ethnic pride and solidarity. The PRC has enjoyed and often used such Pro-China and anti-western sentiments to further its political agendas; Tibet vis a vis the Olympic torch would be one example. By stoking ethnic and cultural pride against criticisms of China, the PRC has mostly insulated itself from real and helpful critique even within the ranks of its own supporters. Warnings are ignored or relegated to the opportunistic din of the alleged anti-China quarter or political opposition. In this case, China pride can quite the double edged sword, masking China, Inc where it really has become China, Stinks. -shock IMHO, even the PRC is beginning to recognize the inherent danger in this and is finally moving forward with the public revelation of information that would never have seen the light of day in the political gamesmanship of yester-year. Only time will tell as to how extensive a clean up the government is willing to undertake. To ignore and do nothing (as it had in the past) is no longer a viable option as too much of its future, its reputation and economy will be staked to this.
-shock ummmmm.... ahhh crap... so after reading this.. its telling me that this past year... me being in China for my exchange program... ive been eating melamine?!?! hmmm... so is there any way of UN-melamine-ing myself??
