Hi guys, im having a problem with my monitor. Its my cousins, and i have not used it, but its supposedly working, its a CRT, 240v monitor, and when i plug it into a socket on the wall, it does turn on but it dies out straight away. (the operation light comes on but then dies out).

I dont really know whats the problem, is it because a fuse that has blown? or is it low on voltage. The monitor is made in korea but im living in the UK, is it connected? I have a 230v computer and it turns on fine, ofcurse im depending on this monitor, does anyone have suggesttiongs?

Do i need to connect the monitor via cpu then socket? or is there anything wrong with my pc?

    any answers appreciated guys.

Was the monitor connected to the back of the computer?

    Just asking...

it might be the graphics card .... i remember mine was like that on my old pc then i changed the graphics card and it worked

with that said it also might be the motherboard (dodgey AGP/PCI/PCI Express slot) or the monitor itself

and also as eggrollboy said make sure its plugged in correctly (VGA Connector) :p

I would be REALLY careful if you decide to open the case. CRTs are capacitors and so it holds a lot of voltage even if it is unplugged!! Some ppl leave it unplugged for weeks so it can discharge.

Why not bring it in to fix it ? If not throw it out and buy a new one. LCDs are cheap nowadays.

If it is still in warranty bring it back :)

  5. yes do not open the case for monitors or for tvs , leave it to professionals because u might fry urself even if the plugs not in! just a thought incase anyone'd ever think of it.

or maybe it's the humidity. try using a hairdryer and carefully warm it up a bit.

wow guys, thanks for your advices, but im still not sure on what to do. well yesh the monitor is plugged in properly and stuff, i know my way around computers fairly, i even took out the vga card and put it back in and literally cleaned the rest of the parts..i got this advice somewhere else..well anyway main point is i still havnt done anything drastic yet *phew* but still confused on what to do. i asked a shop they other day and said that maybe a fuse has blown..well...

the confusing thing is even if its not the right voltage, it shouldnt be a problem coz my cpu can still turn on and run..

appreciate your answers guys, and keep it coming.

    happy holidays.
