It's here. At the cusp of the fighting game revival era, Mortal Kombat has returned to it's roots with 2.5D gameplay kombat.

3 editions are available for purchase:
    Regular Edition $59.99 MSRP
    Game

    Kollector's Edition $99.99 MSRP
    Scorpion/Subzero bookend figure sculptures
    Game
    Mortal Kombat art book
Some DLC goodies (Ermac costume, fatality codes)

    Tournament Edition $149.99 MSRP
Joystick with Suzo-happ parts, memory foam, and lockbox compartment.
    Game
Some DLC goodies (avatar, Ermac classic ninja costume)
    ------------------
    Basic Mortal Kombat stuff
You attack with a Front Punch, Back Punch and Front Kick, Back Kick attacks.
There is a fifth designated Block button. In addition to this, there's a tag button for attacks and assists.

Here's a picture of the arcade layout. I just got my Tournament Edition earlier. [IMG]
The top has a glossy hard plexi glass finish. Whole thing is made of the classic arcade cabinet wood and plastic coating.
The bottom has memory foam (like the mattress) that just molds down onto your lap and doesn't shift much. I'm pretty happy with this.

There's new EX (enhanced) moves and X-Ray attacks in the game.
The EX moves just require you to do the special attacks with an extra block button involved with the input. These require at least 1/3 of your Kombat meter.
The Xray attacks are both top front triggers (L1/R1, LB/RB) or Block+Front Kick+Back Kick together to initiate. These require all 3/3 of your Kombat meter.
    -------------------------------------

If you're not hardcore, there's a lot of casual content and unlockables to play through.

Story mode is like ONE GIGANTIC huge CG movie. they use in-game models to play out the entire storyline and you go straight into fights that tie into the scene. You'll control the entire cast throughout the course of storymode, instead of picking one character and going through a gauntlet of CPU opponents with dialog and sequences. I'm very impressed with this polish to the content.

Like I said, there are tons of unlockables you can purchase with in-game money earned from doing trials, challenges, tutorials and such.

You should pick this up if you're an avid fighting game fan or even a fan of the series itself. -bigclap(Y)

P.S. I was in training mode learning one or two characters, they got so bloodied up that half the model from waist up was soaked in shiny red coloring lol.

This game takes actual time to get used to. It's not Street Fighter or Marvel.

    Welcome to Mortal Kombat, bitches.

This game has a lot of casual content too, which is why I think it also got such good ratings. But what do critics know? They don't know jack shit.

  6. all I know is.. I want those bookends lol

The fighting is slow as heck, when I played it at gamestop when they had it up and running for people to play. After 5 min of playing I finally figure a few moves using subzero. but dame if you combine there moves together to create combos, shit the game play becomes hell fast. hahaha I was dominating 7 people at the game using just subzero. but dame my bro just had to ruin the fun when I played against him. but it was fun kicking ass for awhile.

The fighting is kind of closer with Street Fighter. You really have to utilize the dashing in this game. The last MK game I played was like MK3/Ultimate MK3. It's been a while. I almost miss the run button. But dashing is awesome and easy with this new stick cuz it springs back very fast.

That look nice, if you're a real gamer get both (if you have both consoles) otherwise prepare to lose to the joystick! ~It happens in SF.

I'm almost done with story mode after one sitting. On Kabal (13/16) But I only really wanted to acquire enough Kombat Coins to unlock fatalities and alternate costumes.
