EXCLUSIVE Mum abducts her kids and lives as man for TWO years By Ryan Parry, Us Correspondent, In New York MUM Shellie White snatched her two kids from their dad - then posed as him as she went on the run for more than two years. The crop-haired 20st divorcee, 30, grew a moustache and stubble and even convinced the mixed-up youngsters she was their father. The escapade has echoes of 1993 film Mrs Doubtfire, in which divorced Robin Williams disguises himself as a female housekeeper so he can see his children. But White's gender-swap totally confused her kids, now six and eight. Police revealed: "When she was arrested the children asked why they were arresting their Daddy." White took daughter, Erica, then five, and son Dustin, three, from her ex-husband's home and fled with lesbian lover Holly Sirois. Advertisement Ms Sirois said at first they called White "Mommy" but added: "Over time they started calling her Dad. I don't know why, they just did." Erica, still referring to White as a man, explained she and her brother did so "because he told us to call him Daddy and dads are mostly he's". White used several male aliases, including that of her children's father Ernest Karnes, after fleeing from Phoenix, Arizona. She kept moving the children to different schools to stay ahead of the law. White was finally seized in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, after being found by a debt collector. Law officials said the mum, now wearing glasses, had "radically changed her appearance to that of a man". Deputy Marshal Dennis Harkins added: "She doesn't look like her ex-husband but she told her kids, 'I'm Daddy.' They were young enough - it was plausible. It's pretty bizarre." White, who shared custody of Erica and Dustin with her former husband, claims she did not steal them but faces charges of custodial interference. She also denied deliberately altering her appearance, blaming her facial hair on a hormone disorder. Mr Karnes, now reunited with the children, said: "There are a lot of years to make up.
